Burchfield Bulletin
January 30-February 3 (School Days 96-100)
Thank You, My Friends
- First, everyone is working so hard to make sure struggling students are not being overlooked. Thank you so much!
- Second, goals teams continued their conversations about what our campus needs to meet our CIP and other goals. By the way, the "Reading and Writing Showcase" plans and are looking good. I am looking forward to seeing this happen.
- Club leaders are continuing the planning for their after-school clubs they are starting in the next few weeks. By the way, we have a very interested dance and Suzuki Strings instructor we are seriously working with to begin instruction through after-school clubs for our K-2nd graders.
- Talent Show rehearsals and auctions took place and several of you volunteered in several ways to make the process go quite smoothly. Thanks for the willingness and results of the work. I can't wait to see the big show.
- PCs are alive a well. I am receiving notes from most (THANKS) but not from everyone. Make sure to share your minutes. Thanks
- The Spelling Bee sounds like a small under taking but it really is a mental and physical feat. Jenna and her team did a great job.
- Finally, plans are in full swing for the BISD Schools of Choice Fair that is coming up in a couple of weeks.
I sincerely appreciate everyone's commitment to our school. No one in the business says what we do is easy. But we all know that what we do is hard and worth it the commitment. Our students' successes can be traced right back to your work. Thanks

PEIMS PORTAL
Discretionary Leave Forms (Green Slips)-- When you are planning an absence, it is always best to go ahead and have a sub secured even before getting the approval for your time off… Just let your sub know that if for some reason your time off is denied, that you will give them as much advanced notice as possible. Write on the bottom of your green slip that you already have a sub secured to cover your class or position. If your class is not covered, then your approval could be revoked.
Student Absences-- Please don’t forget to let me know if a parent contacts you about their child being absent… sometimes they let us know in the office, and sometimes they don’t realize that they need to. You could also remind the parent to call the office when they email you saying that their child is sick so that I can mark them as excused. Otherwise, it will just stay in the system as a U. Absences with parent contact due to illness or doctor’s appointments are excused for up to 3 days in a row without a doctor’s note. On the 4th, consecutive day, a doctor’s note is required.
Entering Attendance-- A VERY BIG concern… there have been a lot of errors when entering your daily attendance. Some examples being, students are getting marked with a U instead of a T, the wrong student is being marked Absent, and some students that are Absent are not being marked at all… when I catch these mistakes, I try to email you (or call you if its urgent), BUT if a parent doesn’t call in to the office and you don’t mark that student Absent, then our records are incorrect and I have no way of knowing it… Occasionally, I will receive a doctor’s note or parent note for a student’s absence, but there is not a U in the system for that day for me to re-code… Please do whatever you need to do in order to insure that you are coding each and every student correctly. If during Attendance time, your students are in rotation or not in front of you, then please write their names down on a sticky note so that you can enter the information correctly. Thank you so much for your time and diligence in this matter.
