Parent Teacher Conferences
K-8th grade Parent Teacher Conferences are next week and we are pleased with the amount of families that are signed up to attend! Please be sure to bring your student to conferences so they can be a part of the conversation. In an effort to personalize student's experience at OVS, we have developed a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) for each student. These plans include student's interests, learning styles, MAP data and learning goals and will be shared and discussed at conferences, so teachers, students, and parents can continue to develop these plans together. Conferences will be a great opportunity for parents, students, and teachers to focus on the learning experience of each student. So, thank you in advance for attending.
OPS Grading Protocol
At conferences, students will receive their report cards for the first quarter. In an effort to help families understand the OPS grading protocol, please refer to the resource below. Additional information will be provided at conferences.

K12 Art Contest
K12.com is having an art contest and we want to see your student's artistic talent!
The theme for K12's 12th Annual Art Contest is CELEBRATE CULTURE!
We’re asking students to roll up their sleeves, tap into their artistic side, and create artwork that illustrates how they would celebrate culture. They could Illustrate a customary dance they perform, a food they eat on special occasions, the flag that represents where their ancestors are from, the games their family plays on Friday nights, or something else entirely.
You can submit multiple entries for your student, and the artwork can be realistic or abstract. Students can use paint, photography, or drawing materials or create a collage, a digital illustration, or a three-dimensional piece using clay, origami, etc.
View the full contest guidelines, and submit your student's entry at stories.k12.com. Be sure to enter by 5 PM (ET) on October 31, 2017.
Classroom Happenings
Mr. Dowling's Classroom
Week in Review:
Last week we focused on preparing students for conferences. Our parent/teacher conferences will be student-led. We will be going over MAP scores and goals, progress in K12, and your child’s report card. We started creating our Data Folders they will present to you.
Looking Ahead:
This week we will be finishing our Data Folders and prepping students for presenting this information to you. It is important your child comes to conferences with you. They will be discussing their Reading and Math goals and how they will accomplish them. We will also be doing a Breakout EDU box this week! They are always enjoyable.
