Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 24th January 2020
Fundraising for our Global Community
Thank you to everyone who baked, donated and purchased; the seed planted by Joshua in Year 4 to raise money for the animals affected by the Australia wild fires grew into something larger than we all expected! It was amazing to see the number of baked goods donated. Sales were brisk on Monday after school, but there was still enough left for further sales on Tuesday and a visit to Sunnyfield Lodge on Wednesday. The residents there gave the children a very warm welcome and were also generous in their donations. What a great way to show love for our community and our school's vision in action. Thank you especially to Mrs Shawcross and the Year 4 class, and also to Joshua's mum who worked hard to put everything in place.
The Grand Total from all sales was £258.96!!
Year 5 and Year 2 learn about programming together
Ava in Year 2 was very excited to tell us all about her class working with the Year 5 children to write code to programme our spheros using iPads. She was very clear on what they had achieved, saying that the older children helped them to write instructions on the App which then made the spheros both move and change colour. It was great to hear Ava's enthusiasm and we're sure both classes must have gained a lot from this joint effort.

Staffing Update
Ambassador Friendship Survey
Recently the Ambassadors discussed the results of the survey and identified some actions that they would like to take to further develop friendship in school.
- The children would like to make a friendship book to keep in the chapel, to share examples of when people have been good friends.
- Develop buddies across the school to model good behaviours.
- Friendship lessons to be taught by the Ambassadors in friendship week.
- Share examples of good friendship when giving out Ambassador Awards.
- Focus on anti-bullying in worship, led by the children .
Well done Bethan!
Bethan has been growing her hair particularly with this in mind; we are full of admiration! She had about nine and a half inches cut off and then had it styled by the lovely Sam Waggit at Saks Ripon. Also she has now raised £200 for The Little Princess Trust (a charity that makes real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness or disease) and her page is still open if people do want to donate:
Breakfast Natters in School
We hope that there will be opportunities again in the future to welcome Breakfast Natters into school but would encourage people to head along to the Cathedral Hall next time - the welcome will be just as warm!
Christingle Service - Tuesday 28th January - 5pm in the Cathedral
Letters with full details went out earlier this week but please remember that next Tuesday evening all main school children are invited to stay after school, to be joined by their families in the Cathedral at 5pm for the Christingle Service.
This lovely service has become an annual tradition in which we hope everyone will want to participate again this year. All children from Reception to Year 6 are invited to stay after school for tea before walking up to the Cathedral together. We will look after the children after school and the school kitchen will provide everyone with a free jacket potato before we walk up to the Cathedral in time for the 5pm service in the nave. You are warmly invited to join us in the Cathedral for this very special service. Children must be collected from the Cathedral at 5.30pm.
