Dear Alto Families,
We completed our first five day week! Our students were great this week as we have settled nicely into the rhythm of the new school year.
Fundraiser
We are off to a great start with the fundraiser! If you didn't have a chance to register, click on the link below and enter at least 10 email addresses or cell phone numbers via your personal donation page! We still have the three Golden Ticket prizes available to provide to students who register with 10+ contacts. Additionally, there is still time for students to be entered for the $250 Amazon Gift Card by entering 10+ contacts. Thank you for your support with this fundraiser!

Ice Cream Social
Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers on the ice cream social committee. The family event was a great success! Also, thank you to all of our families and staff who attended the event. We enjoyed spending the evening with all of you. I am sure that everyone in attendance would agree that the Lowell High School Fusion Rock Orchestra was outstanding. They are very talented and entertaining, and it is great for our students to have exposure to the arts. We hope this may contribute to inspiring many of our students to be involved in future middle school and high school music opportunities. Thank you for a great night!
Koda, The Therapy Dog
Koda, a certified therapy dog, will be joining us here at Alto! Koda is a 7 year old golden retriever who belongs to Shana Tundevold (Mrs. T), one of our school social workers. Koda is an incredibly kind and patient dog who loves people above all else! He also loves to go on walks and sniff out squirrels and rabbits, but prefers to be around people, especially if they are offering scratches!
Koda has a lot of experience as a therapy dog, and he worked with Mrs. T for several years in a residential program with youth in foster care and he has worked in a school before too! He is a very calming presence and can help students work through tough emotions or situations, teach students how to be empathetic and offer a non-judgmental furry shoulder when needed. He will be so excited to get back to work and do what he does best! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding this new member of our Alto Team.

Thank you for your continued support! As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns. Enjoy the weekend!
With Gratitude,

Odyssey of the Mind Parent/Student Meeting, 9/28, 6:30-7:30 @ Murray Lake Elem
The Odyssey of the Mind program fosters creative thinking and problem-solving skills among kindergarten through college level students around the world. It features annual competitions at the local, state, and international levels. Teams of seven students form and work to solve one of a number of long-term problems. These problems can vary from being more technical in nature (building mechanical devices and creating balsa wood structures), while others are artistic or performance based (creating a unique interpretation of a literary classic). On the day of competition, teams are also given a spontaneous problem, which allows the team members to use one of the most important skills they will learn in this program – TEAMWORK. The spontaneous problem also allows the team members to develop the ability to “think on their feet.” Students learn lifelong skills – working with others as a team, evaluating ideas, making decisions, and thinking creatively – all the while developing self-confidence and making new friends. Students will also learn there is more than one way to solve a problem and the process is more important than the end result. Being part of an Odyssey of the Mind team is a commitment that demands time and hard work. But it gives back fun, personal growth, and one-of-a–kind experiences.
