Mrs. Newman's Class Newsletter

ELA

Our focus words this week are: place, value, hundreds, tens, ones, expanded, form, equal, even, odd, digit, community, leader, urban, rural, and suburban. These are glued in your child's agenda and they should be reading them each night.

Also, in the agenda on page 21, is the reading log for the month of September. Your child should read 15 minutes each night and log this on page 21 this month. Please initial after nightly reading. I check these on Fridays. I like to use the log in the agenda to save paper.

We have been launching our Reader's Workshop and our Writer's Workshop the past couple of weeks. We have talked about tools writers use and types of paper as well as a wide variety of ideas for writing. We've also had a few students share their writing from the Author's Chair. In reading, we have focused on improving our reading stamina and today we had a discussion about fiction and nonfiction texts. Ask your child the difference between fiction and nonfiction tonight and see what they say. :)
