Biography
-at a young age he moved with his parents to London
-learned how to paint from a well known painter Nicolas Hilliard
-went to Italy and he had remarried after each of his wives died
-painted miniatures and did sketches using chalk and ink and he also created "large-scale portraiture"
-examples of artwork: Charles I, Prince of Wales and Studies of heads
-patrons: Earl of Essex in 1590's, limner to Queen Anne in 1605, Prince Henry in 1609, Prince Charles in 1612
The Entombment
-"Christ supported by four Disciples, being carried to the tomb" -made with chalk, ink, wash on paper
Adoration of the Magi
-created at sometime between 1556-1617 -picture of virgin Mary and son Jesus Christ

PORTRAIT MINIATURE of Richard Sackville, 3rd Earl of Dorset
-watercolor on vellum
-many different colors of paint are used to show shadows and lighting in the room
-their is armor of a knight when the renaissance is suppose to be a time of peace
-the carpets appear to be medieval
-secularism- the person in the portrait is wearing expensive clothing with decorations, the armor appears to be new condition and polished, the curtains in the background, the white glooves and shoes
-humanism- glorifies his figure by drawing him in perfection
