CDC discourages travel
Mounds View Public Schools is not currently requiring quarantine following travel. However, families considering travel during this school year are encouraged to keep a close eye on guidance from the Center for Disease Control. Given the high level of COVID-19 spread in our communities, any unnecessary travel is highly discouraged. The CDC recommends the following: Think about what you would do if you became ill, need to quarantine, etc. while traveling. People who travel out of state are strongly encouraged to quarantine when they return home. Starting January 26, anyone traveling internationally will need to be tested three days prior to returning to the U.S. and have proof of negative results before boarding a flight.

Vaccine pilot program
This week, Governor Walz announced a vaccination pilot program throughout the state to serve some prekindergarten through grade 12 educators, school staff and child care providers. As part of this small initial effort, each school district in the state was allotted a number of doses, and each district was required to prioritize employees to receive these initial vaccinations. Mounds View Public Schools received 25 doses for vaccinations. Using the state’s prioritization criteria as a guide, the District identified its first 25 employees. These employees who were vaccinated this week were staff who have direct, in-person contact with students who are unable to wear masks and those who might come in contact with bodily fluids. This pilot program is a first step on the path to providing vaccinations for all of our employees, and it will position Mounds View to move faster when we get the doses we need. Please be assured we will continue advocating for quick and ongoing access to vaccinations for our employees.
