Superintendent's Update
August 28, 2020
CCPS Community,
Our current Recovery Plan includes a reassessment every 30 days to determine if more students can be brought into buildings. We are encouraged by the governor's announcement yesterday that Maryland school systems now have the local authority to move towards in-person instruction. We will continue to work with the Cecil County Health Department as we move closer to being able to expand face-to-face instruction.
Last week we launched our Virtual Learning Playbook and have received a lot of positive feedback! We will continue to add and update it so please check back often. This week, for instance, we added the following and I would encourage you to check it out:
- Academic Page- new videos with an overview of virtual learning at both the middle school and high school levels.
- Technology Page- a number of new video tutorials (also found on our YouTube Channel) that cover topics such as navigating the various learning platforms, logging on, submitting assignments, and more.
- Resources Page- a process of information sharing where organizations and families can connect for those seeking a supervised space for their child during the school day. The form for organizations to volunteer as well as the list of organizations that have already volunteered can be found on this page. We are grateful to these organizations for their support and we will continue to update the information as more organizations are added.
These are just a few examples of what we have added to our page and what we have shared on our social media platforms this week. It is also important that families note the process for meal distribution that begins next week. Please read the details outlined below or take a look at the Meals page.
I would like to thank Cecil County Parks and Recreation for partnering with us on a new sports program for our high school students. Even though the competitive fall and winter athletic seasons will not occur, we know it is important to offer this opportunity for our students to remain active. View the press release to learn more.
Students will begin their virtual learning on Tuesday and while the first day of school certainly feels very different this year, I am proud of the tireless work that has been done by everyone to prepare for this new year. We will all continue to partner as a community during these difficult times.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.
Superintendent.
