CDS - First Program
The Weekly Word from CDS FP - October 21-October 25, 2019
Mr. Hill's Missive
Hello First Program Community,
We had a lot packed into just four days of school! After our inservice on Monday, students returned to school Tuesday morning. Tuesday also marked the beginning of Term 2.
Wednesday was our first Parent Teacher Conference day of the school year. Thank you for taking the time to meet and discuss your child’s learning. Nearly 100% of our students had at least one parent attend. I was happy to see that many of you took the time to meet more than one of your child’s teachers; please note that you are always welcome to make an appointment to see teachers at any time throughout the year.
Friday we had our wonderful drama productions led by Ms. Stant. She, the G4s & the G3s put on very entertaining shows to a varied audience of MS students, parents and the First Program. Well done grade three and four! And thank you, Ms. Stant! We will have a write-up about it next week.
Student chose Labs last week. There are still a few more left who have to finish, and this should conclude on Monday.
Next week is Spirit Week and each day has a special theme to it. Please see the dates below to see when each special day happens. In addition, please read your teacher’s message on Seesaw for the details of each day.
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Hill
Director of First Program

In the Spotlight
This week we are featuring Korean and Grade 4.
Korean with Ms. Kim
In this week, G1-4 students worked hard for finishing their project.
-Grade 1 learned how to write Korean letters in term 1. Their final project is writing a picture diary. They wrote sentences themselves and rewrite with teacher’s guide.
-Grade 2 learned how to write experiences in the order, using words that shows the timeline. Their final project is making a book. They wrote a meaningful memory following time order and decorate their book with picture.
-Grade 3 learned how to write meaningful experiences including their feelings. Their final project is making a CDS newsletter. They chose one school event and wrote about that experience including what they felt at that time. We will gather these individual writings and make one big newsletter.
-Grade 4 learned how to write travelogue and presentation attitude when they speak in public. Their final project is a presentation about their travelogue. They made a slide that helps listeners' understanding and did a presentation using proper tone, facial expression and gestures.
Grade 4 with Mr. Cool
Grade four had a super busy week! We practiced for our performance a great deal this week! We were busy memorizing our lines and practicing how to manage everything in the theater such as the lights and sound! They had a great show on Friday! All of the students worked so hard and I am so proud of everyone’s effort! We also began term 2! We started learning multi digit multiplication in math! We also began learning how to summarize a nonfiction text! We are beginning a really fun Korean history project where we learn all about Korea and its neighbors!
