Navigating Teens & Sexuality
3 Takeaways from the Research & Meeting:
- The conversation about sexuality and the nuances of sexuality is clearly missing in our church and spheres of influence. If parents are talking to students about sex, either we are waiting too long to talk about it or we're not getting deep enough. One of the big criticisms from the 20-27 year olds is that they felt that the church (esp. asian church) doesn't provide a place safe enough to talk through these things.
- On a whole, teens are engaging in intercourse less frequently than the previous generations. I don't know if that's because of social media and students opting to stay home away from others or something else but the trend is down. However, sexual activity such as oral sex is on the rise.
- There's a growing contingency of the gay christian community (esp. in the Asian American context.)
Below are the notes from the meeting

1. Social Media Use and Health Risks // JOURNAL OF ADOLESCENT HEALTH (FEB 2019)
Young adults' social media site use profiles are associated with alcohol, tobacco, and drug use and depressive symptoms, suggesting that tailoring interventions to certain sites might be effective. Social media use has become an integral part of life for the vast majority of U.S. adolescents and young adults [1,2]. In recent years, youth social media use has evolved and become more sophisticated, as users report frequent use within and across multiple social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat) [1,2]. Public discourse surrounding social media use often emphasizes the negative repercussions to young people’s health and well-being. The research in this domain, however, paints a more complex picture of the

2. Virginia governor’s defense of abortion turns into a defense of infanticide // THE BRIEFING (JAN 31, 2019)
The relationship between culture and morality is natural, it's essential. You can't have culture without morality and of course the culture also influences the morality. But cultures themselves take on a moral profile. The trajectory of the culture is indicated by the trajectory of its morality. Furthermore, there is a baseline minimal morality that is necessary for a culture to exist. There is an obvious historic question, at what point does the breaking of a moral code lead to the break up of a society? Of an entire culture?

3. CBC YOUTH MISSIONS // COSTA RICA // JUNE 19-26
For the third year in a row, CBC Youth will be hosting an international mission trip to Costa Rica partnering with LA Ranch Ministries. Previously we have brought 72 participants all of which are able to tell you their experience and how God changed them. We are always looking to invite youth plus their families to go. However, we are opening this trip to some of our partnering churches to come and have a vision trip.
