CHS Planetarium Field Trip
Tuesday, April 16th 2013 at 9:45-11:15am
We are headed to space! On April 16th we are headed over to CHS Planetarium. We will be leaving school around 9:40 and will return sometime around 11:10. Anyone is welcome to join us on this field trip but chaperones are not necessary. Please let us know if you have any quesitons!
The Great Preschool Camp In!
We are going camping! Well ok. Maybe not really camping but we will be learning all about camping andstaying safe while camping, hiking and being around campfires. We will be "camping" for two weeks and we have a lot of fun things planned! On May 3rd we are having our official "camp in"! We will "roast" marshmallows for S'mores, sing camp songs, have a super special snack and tell stories around the campfire, sleep in and around a tent and so much more. But, we need your help with a few things! We need for each child to bring in a flashlight and hat. They also need to be dressed hiking appropriate on the days we will be "hiking". (please check the calendar for specific dates -- rain dates will be scheduled if we need them) We will still hike if it is slightly wet and possibly muddy... On May 3rd we need for each child to have a sleeping bag (or similar) for our "camp in". We will send out more information and reminders through e-mail so keep an eye out!
Week of the Young Child
During the week of April 22nd we will celebrate the week of the young child. There are several fun activities planned for this week (in between camping!). On Friday the 26th please join us at Barnes and Noble in Carmel/Westfield for a family fun event to end the week. More information will be sent to you via email.
Weather and Appropriate Clothing
We all know Indiana is known for crazy weather. The day could start of in the 30's and end in the 70's. So we are asking for you to make sure you child has appropriate clothing/jackets in his or her cubby. It might be helpful if they had an extra light jacket/sweatshirt left in their cubby. (Our room tends to run on the cold side as well -- they are always asking to put their jackets on) A change of clothing (short leave shirt, long sleeve shirt and shorts/capris) might also be helpful. Please make sure your child has on or brings to school playground friendly shoes. We don't mind if they have flip flop/sandals on in the classroom but they ARE NOT allowed to wear them on the playground. Thank you in advance for you help!
Counting to 100 contest
We are learning to count to 100! Every year we hold a "contest" with the class to count to 100. The kiddos seem to really enjoy this challenge! We will allow each child to decide if they would prefer to count in front of the class or to the side with either teacher. If they can count to 100 without any fumbles they will receive a special certificate and small token of some kind. If they miss a few numbers or cannot count to 100 but gave it their very best try they will recieve a different certificate for a good effort. Our goal is to encourage each child to challenge themselves to try something that might be a little bit tricky for them while secretly learning something very important for kindergarten! Please let us know if you have any questions.
It was a little cloudy outside today so look for the moon inside! (one of the science classes put a moon up on a ledge in the middle school for a unit of study in their class -- so of course we took advantage of this great opportunity!)
The last few weeks of school
The last few weeks of school are going to be very busy, fun, and slightly more relaxed! We have several fun activities planned for the last couple themes including an ooey gooey messy week -- dress for mess! --, a gardening theme complete with our own flower, and a very relaxed last week of school full of water fun! We will start to slowly send all papers and projects home so keep an eye on your childs folder.
