Hembree Highlights
September 18, 2020
Note from Mrs. Smith
Every Friday I get excited about the upcoming week. I am already excited to have more students in the building next week. We have been hard at work getting everything ready for our students. It will be a wonderful week of firsts and it will set the tone for the remainder of this semester!
I want to take a moment to brag on our fabulous PTA. They have been doing incredible work to support all of our Hawks. Here are just a few things that PTA has done within the past few weeks: new potted flowers at entry way, pencil pouches for students, bags of groceries for families in need, headphones for students, Amazon teacher wish lists, clothing drive, food donations for distribution on October 7, and so much more. Please make sure to support PTA by becoming a member. PTA will not beg you to volunteer or give more money, even though that is always an option, but instead your membership helps to support all the wonderful projects that PTA supports. Be sure to check the weekly communication from PTA towards the bottom of this newsletter.
We are moving into Phase 3 on Monday.
Things to know:
1) All grades will be coming to the building 1 day per week.
2) Students will still get virtual instruction in the synchronous model (in real time with the teacher) throughout the day.
3) We will have recess, specials, and lunch just like normal but with social distancing modifications.
4) Lunch will be in the cafe. This will be in the grab and go model, but students will still have some options on selection. Please see the menu below.
5) Class size will be 9 (or so). In many cases they are much lower because of the groupings.
6) Kids will participate in specials. ALL virtual specials EXCEPT PE will be pre-recorded to accommodate face to face instruction for students in the building.
7) Students will be provided a lanyard made for masks so that they can take their masks on and off during recess, lunch, and PE as necessary. We hope this will prevent trading, dropping them, and promote cleanliness of the masks. These lanyards will stay at school to ensure that students have them every day they are here.
8) Teachers will be able to use a clear mask for portions of instruction. It is a tight fitting mask that is completely clear and will allow the teacher to protect our students while teaching things like phonics, where it is important for the students to see the teacher's mouth.
9) We will continue to take every child's temperature prior to entering the building. Please do not send your child if they have any symptoms of COVID, have been exposed to someone with COVID, or have been directed to quarantine for any reason. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jean Bagwell at BagwellJ@fultonschools.org.
If you have any questions, please reach out this weekend. I am here for you and your families!
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

From Our PTA
Don't Forget to Join the PTA!
Our membership drive is under way and our goal is to have each and every parent and teacher become a member of our PTA. Membership is $10/parent or guardian, and includes voting rights for PTA elections, electronic directory, as well as national and state discounts.
Please Donate to Our Food Drive
Many of our families were economically disadvantaged before the pandemic, but the needs are growing. Families are NOW out of work due to the COVID-19 crisis. If you find that you have a little extra, donating dry goods is one of several ways in which you can help support our children.

We Need Your Help!
Phase 1 and Phase 3 of Hembree Springs Elementary re-opening have begun! Now that some children are returning face-to-face, we can really use your donations to the Annual Fund. Donate on Member Hub today!
Where do your Annual Fund dollars go? Your donations are used for student enrichment, staff support, community connections, family engagement programs and COVID-19 related needs. An example is the teacher grant program, including one this year to set up an outdoor classroom-type space for our students, or providing additional school supplies since students can no longer share materials due to COVID-19.
Any amount is welcome and appreciated – without your contributions these programs cannot continue. HSES PTA is a 501c(3) non-profit organization, and your donation could be doubled – click here to see how to get your company to match your donation to Hembree Springs!!
Donate by October 1st and you’ll be entered for a chance to win a Kendra Scott jewelry set Ever Rhodium necklace in platinum drusy and Betty Rhodium earrings in platinum!
Thank you for your support!
