Fall is Here!
The last day of summer has passed and the nights and mornings are getting cooler. Before too long the leaves will be falling off the trees and snow will be in the forecast. Next week is homecoming week at our school and it is filled with a number of school spirit activities. We do have school next Friday and the afternoon includes events with the community. The homecoming games take place on Saturday afternoon. Please join us in celebrating our school and community during homecoming week!

Did You Know?
The Akron School District is part of S-CAP (Student Centered Accountability Program). The district joined S-CAP in the spring of 2018. S-CAP was designed by a group of Colorado rural school districts with the idea of providing an alternative accountability system that works to provide districts with feedback for continuous improvement. To accomplish this, the participating districts use multiple measures of student success to expand results beyond a single state test score. Each district in S-CAP has a yearly review that is conducted by a team made up of teachers and administrators from other rural districts and professionals from the University of Colorado Denver. Each district in S-CAP goes through the review process alternating one-day virtual reviews with two-day on-site comprehensive reviews every other year. Each year districts compile artifacts, surveys are given to students, parents, and staff, and focus groups composed of students, staff, and parents are interviewed. Additionally, the review team completes walkthroughs of the building and classrooms. They then compile their findings and data and rate the district in the areas of climate and culture, curriculum and instruction, leadership and vision, professional learning, and resource allocation.
Feedback from past reviews has led to and/or helped support: the development of strategic priorities, increased internal and external communication, curriculum purchases, administrative restructuring, additional counseling and student supports, and additional student opportunities. This year’s Akron School site review is a two-day comprehensive review that will take place on Monday, November 7th and Tuesday, November 8th. A survey link will be shared with students, parents, and staff ahead of the review. Please look for this link that will be shared with you and take the opportunity to give us your feedback through the survey so we can continue to work toward making our school the very best it can be.

Don’t let negativity win!
Remember, it starts with you. If you are complaining you’re not leading. If you are leading, you’re not complaining. One person can’t make a team but one person can break a team. Stay Positive!
