The Glass Castle
In the article "Mental Health Conditions" it states that "A person's thinking, feeling or mood may affect and disrupt his ability to relate to others and function in daily life." This relates to the book "the Glass Castle" because Rose Mary has a mental illness. Rose Mary Is emotionally unstable and at many times she seems to be bipolar. She most likely developed this mental illness by her tragic life at home having to deal with a drunk for a husband and trying to manage 4 kids with almost no money.
In the article "Alcoholism and the Family" it says that the entire family of the alcoholic is negatively affected. This article relates to the glass castle because not just Rex is affected by his alcoholism the entire Walls family is. Rose Mary is emotionally unstable and it is possibly the cause for her mental illness. The kids constantly go hungry because the dad can't keep a job due to his alcoholism. Rex is physically and verbally abusive to his family and is most likely the root cause that their family struggles so much.
In this article it states that Long-term alcohol or drug-induced incapacity of the parent can result in Termination of Parental Rights. In the book the Glass castle Rex Walls is an alcoholic during most of the book and he rarly provided for his kids. If the child welfare people were to launch an ivestigation into Rex and Rose Mary there is a big chance that they might be stripped of the parental rights. I don't think they should have lost their parent rights even though they could be a bit neglecting they still loved their children.
