Greetings from the school counseling department!

October is College Knowledge Month!

Please contact your school counselor, Rachel Prince, if you would like her to present about post-secondary opportunities such as PSEO, Job Corps, short-term trainings, Power of You at Minneapolis College, etc.

(And don't forget to invite Rachel to all relevant IEP meetings! )

We have already come to what should be the last week of Self-Awareness work. The following week our focus will be on Self-Management. I’m happy to visit classrooms to do a circle on this topic if you would like.

There have been some reports of bullying within the last week. Please let me know if you become aware of this going on. It’s important to address it early and purposefully.

Have a great week!

Food Service News

Breakfast sandwiches:

Wednesday mornings $2.50

Staff lunch meal deal:

Thursdays $5.50

Bakery Orders:

There’s still plenty of time to get your order in for a special treat! Bring cookies, pumpkin bars, a Bundt cake to that next football party of family event. Yum!

Did you spill something?

If you or one of your students spills something on the floor, please notify the front office or notify Pete or DJ immediately. This way the spill will not turn into a permanent stain.

Please use cups with lids on them. If we continue to have spills throughout the building we will need to start limiting what and where people can drink.

Please share this with students also!

CBI Important Reminders:

  • Be sure to highlight the names of the students that are in attendance in your module.
  • CBI Module Facilitators for Round 2, please email Colleen a description of your module TODAY! so everyone knows what they are signing up for. All descriptions will be at the bottom of the Oct 25 sign up sheet. Thanks!
  • Send any school bus requests and lesson plans to Colleen ASAP.

Public Service Announcement

The ESPs at Transition Plus are currently without a union steward.

It’s really important to have someone represent needs and advocate in tough times.

Additionally, ESPs are in the midst of bargaining for a new contract.

If you, or someone you know, are interested in becoming an ESP Union Steward, please contact Tia, Jill, or Jake.

Professional Development Update

Upcoming opportunities abound! Here at TPlus we will have PD once a month.

Here’s the schedule for the rest of 2019:

  • October 15 Equity provided by the office of Equity and Engagement
  • November 1 Varies TBD, more information to come soon
  • November 26 LGBTQ provided by Out 4 Good, Jason Bucklin

PSWE - spotlight on your visual learnings and struggling readers - this is not necessarily new or groundbreaking information, but a great reminder to consider all learners who enter our classrooms.

Engaging Visuals

Ideas to include visuals in your lessons to capture attentions, enhance your lessons, drive home impact and meaning, and support non-readers, and those who need visual processing support. See the exciting supports in Molly B’s classes!

Are your students at a higher level? Raise their stakes by giving them the leadership role to read, write, or give the verbal directions in groups.

Latinx Celebration!

Thank you to everyone that was involved in planning, setting up and cleaning up for the Latinx Celebration!

A lot of students and staff worked hard to make it the success that it was. It appeared that the families and district people that came were very impressed and enthusiastic about the inclusion and joy that was emitted by our staff and students.

The dancing students were so inspiring!
