Checking Out the LRC
In the library, we have started a new Genre Tree called "Lived Lives." Under this genre tree, we study books that tell us about the lives of different people.
The branches we have been growing are:
- Autobiographies (PreK, K, 3rd, 6th)
- Memoirs (1st, 4th)
- Biographies (2nd, 5th)
Activities we have been engaging in:
- Blind readalouds and booktalks of example books from the genre
- Visualizing what we hear and read about
- Making inferences to predict and draw what a book cover may look like
- Making inferences and making connections to predict the genre of a book using ChatterPix
- Organizing our ideas about the genre in Mindmup
Concepts we have been engaging with:
- What is an autobiography? How can we define it?
- What is a memoir? How can we define it?
- What is a biography? How can we define it?
As we delve into new genres, students strengthen their knowledge of library resources and build their bank of tools and options.
