President's Message
Hello Hiteon Families!
We hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather. It was wonderful to see so many of you out in the neighborhood on October 6th for Walk and Roll Day. We had a perfect chilly (but dry!) morning for it. Hundreds of kids across the district took to our neighborhood streets to make their way to school. Thank you to all who participated.
We are slowly being able to get some volunteers into the building to assist with some day-to-day tasks. Thank you to those who have stepped in to help with picture day and kindergarten and first grade lunches. I know the teachers greatly appreciate the extra help.
Our Hiteon Hawk was installed on the school fence near the bus entrance this week. If you haven't had a chance to see it yet, head over for a look. This was a PTC funded project to help add a little bit of school spirit to the neighborhood. A huge thank you to Ashleigh Horner and Stradivari Sibulboro who spent hours out there with me this week, clipping those cups into the fence. It looks fantastic!
Coming up we have our PTC General Meeting on Wednesday, October 20 at 7PM, our annual virtual Pumpkin Decorating Contest at the end of October, and school conferences October 28-29.
Happy October!
Kristin Glover, Hiteon PTC President

Culture Corner
Filipino American History Month - October
Mabuhay! October celebrates Filipino American History Month (FAHM)! October marks the first documented landing of Filipinos in what is now known as the continental U.S. on October 18, 1587. FAHM celebrates the events and culture of the history of Filipino Americans and how they played a role in America’s history.
Learn about the Filipino farm workers' role in the Delano grape strike and how they fought for better working conditions.
Kain na tayo (Let's eat)! Try some Filipino food at Kubo in Bethany Village.
Magbasa tayo (Let’s read)! Check out Filipino Celebrations: A Treasury of Feasts and Festivals and Cora Cooks Pancit from the Washington County Library.
We want to feature our community's cultures and traditions
The Hawk Squawk will feature international celebrations occurring in the coming weeks. We would love for a parent or guardian to help write these each month. Interested? Please contact the Diversity & Inclusion Committee to offer your assistance.
Are you interested in having your family featured in November’s Hawk Squawk? Send your pictures to the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and we will have 3-5 pictures from the Hiteon community's family celebrations each month. Check out the 'Featured Family Celebration' from April 2021 Hawk Squawk for an example.
Reminder: the Diversity & Inclusion Committee meets every other Tuesday from 6:30PM - 7:30PM on Zoom. A Zoom link will be posted on our Facebook page and website. We hope to see you there.
