First Barbie Doll introduced
Barbie doll was marketed as a teen fashion model and mirrored as the sophisticated glamour of 1950s stars like Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and Elizabeth Taylor. The Barbie doll projected every little girl's dream of the future while teaching females about independence. And it also represented that women could be and more; famous, wealthy, and popular
First credit card was invented by Dr. George Butterfield
In 1950, the first independent credit card company in the world, Diners Club, started as a way for New York businessmen to pay for client meals at 14 participating restaurants. The Club went on to inspire the first credit card-themed Hollywood movie (1963’s The Man from the Diners' Club).
Dr. Seuss publishes Cat in the Hat
Random House published The Cat in the Hat in March of 1957, it was an immediate hit and ultimately revolutionized the way American children learned to read. The Cat in the Hat was a response to concerns that American children were lagging in literacy.
DNA Structure was discovered by Watson and Crick

Disneyland Opens

He intended Disneyland to have educational as well as amusement value and to entertain adults and their children. Disneyland opened to the public on July 18, 1955, with an entrance fee of $1. Over the decades, Disneyland has added attractions and opened the imaginations of millions of children.
