Hard Drives

A hard drives responsibility is to store items on the computer. Everything that is on your computer is kept on your hard drive. If your hard drive is damaged you can lose all of the data, so when buying a hard drive, make sure that you have another hard drive to keep a copy of important files and a back up system.

What is a hard drive?

A hard drive stores all of your data. It keeps the hard disk, where all your files and folders are located. A hard drive is only slightly larger than your hand so it fits accurately in the desktop tower but it can hold over 100 GB of data. A stack of disk stores the data which is stored in a solid encasement. The disk spins extremely fast so that data can be accessed from anywhere on the data. The data is stored on the hard drive magnetically so it stays on the drive even when the power supply is turned off.

What's the difference between a SDD and a HDD?

An SSD saves your data while the system is off which boots your system as an HDD but instead of a magnetic coating on top of platters, the data is stored on interconnected flash memory chips that retain data even when there’s no power present.
