Newsletter Week 1 Term 3

Meeanee School 27th July, 2022

It appears that COVID-19 is starting to circulate in our community again. We strongly recommend the use of masks to help combat the spread. If you are a parent coming into the school grounds please wear a mask.

I would like to officially welcome back Mrs Donnison to school. Bronwyn was in part time at the end of last term working on a new project. This term Bronwyn will share Kiwi with Anne McGregor.

Papakura, this term, will be ramping up their fundraising efforts so that they can go on Camp in Term 4. Please watch out for their fundraisers. This year they are going to Wellington. The first time since COVID-19 hit that they are able to go out of the region.

I would also like to welcome four new students who have started this term, Malia and Ragnar in Pukeko, Ginny in Moananui, and Logan in Papakura. Our school roll is now over 100.

Be Kind, Stay Safe,

Canoe Polo Champions

Congratulations to the Meeanee Maestro's Year 7/8 Canoe Polo team who took out the E3b grade at the end of last term winning their final 7-3.

Well done Adam, Annabell, Azariah, Boston, Kaden, and Paige. Lilly-Rose also started in this team before injury curtailed her season.

Thanks to 2 of our former students Keira and Talon for coaching the team.

Bottle Rockets

Moananui had a great term 2 with their Wonder Project, ably supported by engineer Simon McLoughlin.

Netball continues this term for years 5 to 8. Thank you to Kylie and Kelly for coaching these teams.

Basketball starts next week for years 3 to 8. Thank you to Joel, Ricky, Aimee for coaching these teams. We still need a coach for the Year 5/6 team. Please see Kelly if you can help this team out.

Cross country has been booked for the 25th August. Appropriate footwear needs to be worn daily as we will be training daily at school.

Structured Literacy Trial

In Term 2 we were lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to take up a Structured Literacy trial for our Years 4-6. Mrs Bronwyn Donnison and Mrs Kelly McKay are the two teachers who have been selected to run this programme. Thanks to the team at Learning Matters who are paying for this trial. Professional Development and Testing was carried out last term.

The great thing is because we are a small school, 60% of our students in these year groups are receiving this support. We will monitor the effectiveness of this programme over the course of the term and see the impact of this slightly different way of teaching.

Sunday Market

Taradale Sunday Market is happy to support local, and is open weekly. For more info contact or look on facebook.
