Update from the Principal
SCHEDULING: We are starting the scheduling process for the 2021-22 school year with our 5th, 6th and 7th grade students on Monday, March 15. Please see the article below for scheduling forms, course descriptions, video tutorials, etc...
NO ATTENDED EVENTS: There are several annual events that often occur towards the end of the school year. Please understand that ECSD has the health & safety of it's students and staff at the forefront of everything we do. So, as it pertains to SCMS and the usually planned in-person events like the Tigers game, Washington DC, Cedar Point, concerts, field day, award ceremonies, dances, etc... have all been cancelled, take place without visitors, or occur through a virtual platform for the students and parents. More to come on this after Spring Break.
Enjoy the weekend!

Scheduling Classes - 2021-22
Our 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students will be getting Scheduling Selection Forms on Monday, March 15 for the 2021-22 school year. These grade-level forms need to be completed by ALL students (in-person or virtual) and need to be returned to the SCMS Office by 3:00pm on Wednesday, March 24. Virtual students can also send completed form back by scanning it or taking a picture of it, and then emailing it to Ms. Rutledge at smrutledge@ecsd.us.
All 3 forms can be found by licking the links below. Also, there is a 3-4 minutes video for each grade level that explains the process for completing the forms as well as additional information about elective options.
- 6th grade Scheduling Selection Form & Video Explanation (completed by current 5th grade)
- 7th grade Scheduling Selection Form & Video Explanation (completed by current 6th grade)
- 8th grade Scheduling Selection Form & Video Explanation (completed by current 7th grade)
Current 8th grade students moving to 9th grade:
On March 18th and 19th, the high school counselors, Mrs. Higgins and Mr. Short, will be at SCMS to speak with the 8th grade students in their History classes about course scheduling for 9th grade. Parent/Guardian signatures will be required on the forms, as well as teacher signatures for any student taking Geometry or an AP class as a Freshman. It is very important that students be in class that day as students will also be creating their CollegeBoard accounts which will be used in high school to obtain test scores and assist with AP class requirements. All scheduling forms are to be turned in to the SCMS Main Office.
If there are any questions, please call SCMS at 810-676-1800 and ask for our Counselor, Ms. Rutledge, or our Office Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Draghiceanu.

Counselor's Corner
Careers Focus:
In March, our Counselor, Mrs. Rutledge, along with ELA Teachers will work together to introduce students in grades 6, 7, and 8 to the new career and education program, Xello. Students will complete interest inventories, learning style inventories, personality style inventories and lessons that help them navigate how careers and education come together to help them pursue their goals. Xello is a great tool that will help all students develop their Educational Development Plan required for graduation. Parents are encouraged to ask their students about the program during the month of March and beyond, and take the journey with their student that can lead to a bright future.
Please access our Counselor Corner interactive page with a ton of resources by CLICKING HERE. By clicking the icons on the slides, there are resources for students and parents with a variety of interests and needs.

Xello - 6th/7th/8th grade
So far, a few of Mrs. Marginean's 6th grade Writing classes have completed their requirements for this year in Xello, and it looks like we have a lot of aspiring young Artists, Cartoonists, and Animators. Continue to ask your students about Xello and have them log in at home and show you all of the great features that it has to help with the journey to higher education and careers.
If anyone has any question about the requirement that students have to complete their work in Xello, please call Ms. Sandy Rutledge at 810-676-1808.

Throughout the month of March, our district will be embarking on a special project for all elementary students, an all-district book club called One District, One Book. Every family of elementary students (K-5) will receive a copy of the same book – Katherine Applegate’s The One and Only Ivan - and will be asked to read it together at home each day in March.
Please Parent Letter Here as well as the MIRM Calendar for the students and parents to work through at home. These will be emailed to all 5th grade students & parents on Monday, March 1.
5th grade parents should look for an email containing additional information Monday, March 1, in the afternoon.
