Kia ora e te whānau,
Since our last newsletter, TNIS has been abuzz with activity, quality learning programmes, inquiring minds, sports tournaments, and student leaders driving well-being, cultural, environmental and sports schoolwide.
Property Update: The upgrades of Rooms 1-4 is progressing at a rapid pace and we are excited to be able to use these spaces once again for our learners at the beginning of Term 3. In Term 3 the school auditorium, music room and toilet block will have a major upgrade. Once completed we will have modern and multi-space facilities for our learners.
Moving forward into Term 3 and 4 we will be doing a large amount of painting around the school including repainting the basketball courts, four square spaces and we are hoping to secure extra funding to astroturf both netball courts and install new modern drinking fountains.
Covid Cases: We have been lucky to see a decline in Covid-19 cases over the last fortnight amongst students and staff, in saying this we continue to remain vigilant with our Orange level settings. We strongly encourage all students to wear face masks while in the classroom. As an extra layer of protection, the Board of Trustees has purchased 36 air purifiers for all classrooms, specialist rooms, learning spaces, staffroom and administration block. We are very grateful to the school board for this significant financial contribution to ensure everyone is safe.
Parent Survey: Thank you to those of you who have filled in this short survey, if you have not completed it, we encourage you to fill this in here. Your thoughts are very useful as we plan for the remainder of 2022 and 2023’s strategic planning.
Board Elections: Board elections, please take the time to read the information further on in this newsletter regarding the September Board elections.
Winter Weather: As the winter weather fast approaches it is a timely reminder to ensure that your child is prepared for the wet and cold months ahead. It is important to send your child to school every day with a raincoat in their bags as well as an umbrella and a school jacket, jumper or hoodie. The Auckland weather is very changeable and the temperature fluctuates dramatically during the day, please be prepared!
Teacher Only Days: As an International Baccalaureate PYP school, we invest heavily in ongoing professional development for our staff to ensure they are up to date with the best teaching practices and to achieve the best possible outcomes for our learners. On Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th August school will be closed as we are having two days of PYP professional development with Milford Primary School. Thank you for your understanding in advance.
Matariki Celebrations: Next week 20th-24th June we will be celebrating Matariki with a variety of activities. We encourage you to join us for a Matariki breakfast at 6:45am on Wednesday 22nd June. A reminder that school is closed on Friday 24th June as it is a public holiday.
Noho pai, tiaki i a koutou ano (stay well and look after yourselves)

Seeking Parent help for International Culture and Language Week activities - T2 2022
This term TNIS has a focus on teaching a variety of languages and complimented with an element of culture and tradition. Towards the end of the term (30/6-6/7) we will have an “International Week’ of activities to celebrate the languages and cultural diversity at TNIS. We would like for these activities to represent as many different cultural backgrounds and bring a greater sense of ethnic awareness to our learners. Each activity will have its own lunchtime slot and go for approximately 30 minutes of the break.
This is where I need your help. Do you, or someone in your family, have any kind of cultural or traditional demonstration/performance (craft, hobby, game, skill, talent or passion) that you would be able to share with us? If so, that would be amazing as we would appreciate you joining us and sharing with our learners.
Any questions, please ask.
Please provide your name, best contact, the activity you can provide and your preferred day(s).

AUT RESEARCH SURVEY
TNIS Wellbeing Parent Portal
Ministry of Education Survey
This survey is to support the preparation for changes to schools’ planning and reporting, as legislated in the Education and Training Act 2020, that come into effect on 1 January 2023.
Instead of a charter, schools and kura must publish a three-year Strategic Plan, an Annual Implementation Plan, and an Annual Report. Schools and kura must work in partnership with their communities to develop their plans so they reflect local needs and priorities.
The Ministry of Education is undertaking initial engagement and consultation with school communities. Your views will help decide what should become compulsory as regulations versus what should be guidance only, so that strategic plans are flexible enough to meet local needs.
Please click on the link below if you would like to take part in the survey,
Arrival and Leaving School Grounds

In particular, we would appreciate your support in checking that your child is wearing:
- PLAIN BLACK SHOES (these may have a white sole but no other white or coloured logos or markings).
- navy blue or black socks (no other colours). These can be any length.
The uniform guidelines are set out below and are also available on our school website.
School Uniform Guidelines:
Learners ensure that they:
- wear their uniform correctly and with pride.
- bring their PE uniform to school for PE, Fitness and sports practices.
- wear shoes that are plain black - any logos must be black (not white or any other colour).
- All black trainers with white soles are acceptable.
- wear navy blue or black socks (no other colours). These can be any length.
- wear the TNIS school jacket during the school day but have the option to wear their own jacket to and from school (not non-uniform sweatshirts or hoodies).
- wear their full school uniform to and from school each day.
