News and Notes
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Coming to Excelsior Springs High School!
ESHS will be expanding our offerings next year by introducing the first course (Introduction to Engineering) of the PLTW course set. This project-based course gives students the opportunity to apply complex math and engineering concepts to real-world projects. A new PLTW course will be added each year over the next four years allowing next year's freshman to complete the full four year path.
I am excited to announce that Introduction to Engineering (IED) will be taught by Tony Harman. Tony's passion for innovative teaching and strong math background make him an ideal fit for this program. Tony will continue with his Instructional Coach duties on a part-time basis until the program is fully implemented. Please join me in congratulating Mr. Harman in this new endeavor!
JV Boys Take First Place!
Congratulations to the JV Boys Basketball team for taking first place last Saturday in the Excelsior Springs Tournament. The varsity boys and girls will be competing next week in the Cameron Tournament. Go Tigers!
Facebook Famous.
Please keep sending pictures of students engaged in your classrooms. Parents and students are connecting with us through Facebook. Classroom activities and student achievements have been very popular, and remember, most of your students like seeing themselves on our page. More pictures = more opportunities. Thank you for all the pictures you have sent and keep them coming!
The iPads are Coming. The iPads are Coming!
This Thursday iPads will be delivered to every freshman, marking the beginning of a major shift that will see ESHS becoming a fully 1:1 campus in under three years. There will inevitably be hiccups, both foreseen and not, but I encourage you to stay focused on the opportunity that we have been given to transform our students' learning and persevere through any implementation headaches.
Tiger Family
In addition to the important work we do every day for our students, each of us is also leading our own lives with the joys and sorrows that come with it. In the spirit of continuing to strengthen our school community, we would like to begin sending out all-staff (in-building, not district-wide) notifications when one of our members has a significant life event, such as a new birth or a death in the family. If you prefer to not have that type of information shared, please email me and I will include you on an opt-out list.

Praxis Problems?
Many educators over the course of their careers will add an area to their teaching certificate by taking a Praxis Series test. Although you passed the test and had your scores sent to DESE you suddenly find out you don't have the certificate you thought you did, what happened? Sending scores to DESE doesn't automatically update your certificate--you must complete a new DESE application. Find out more on the Educator Quality section of DESE's website.
