How many items are in the jar??

How many supplies are in the jar??

If you were able to visit with me at parent conferences, there was a unique opportunity to win a big jar of school supplies. As students visited my table, they used their scientific reasoning to hypothesize the number of school supplies in the jar.

And the Winner is...

I received guesses from 50 to over 1000 items! But the actual number of items in the jar was 189. Claudia O. ended up with closest guess of 195! Everything in the jar is yours to keep! Great job using your observation and estimation skills, Claudia!

Announcements

Last week in Science we finished up the Airplane Lab. The students will be turning in their completed lab report on Monday! Again, this is a summative grade (80% of their grade). It wouldn't hurt to look over it by using the scoring guide (INB page 36) to help make sure you have all of the required information.

This week we are transitioning into Biology. On Monday we will be taking the Science SBACK interim assessment. This basically a practice test to get some data about where the kids are currently.

Then on Tuesday/Wednesday the counselors are coming in to talk to us about mandated career guidance activities this year on a website called Naviance. The counselors will be presenting a lesson about Multiple Intelligences. Please contact Ms. Stremme if you have any questions.

On Thursday and Friday, Mrs. Kottkey will be in the classroom and we will be practicing observations and examinations of bean seeds as we lead into our unit about "The Characteristics of Life."

In other news...

Each quarter we have a friendly little competition. Each class is competing to have the best average GPA. We do this by working together to help everyone succeed. 6th period barely edged out 4th period for the win! Sixth period ended up with a overall average of 86.7! And fourth period respectively walked away with a 86.5! Good job to all my classes, these are some of the highest averages I've had in years.
