NEWS FROM DR. CHAUSSEE
Keeping Everyone Safe…
As we are about to end week #11 I’d like to give parents a short update on the coronavirus impact on Grace Abbott. We have had two positive cases of Covid at our school, both staff members and both quarantined. Currently two students and one support staff employee are quarantined which is .6% of students and staff of 475.
We currently have 45 remote learners which is 10% of our students. That means 396 students are in person and obviously that is what parents have chosen. I do realize that some of those choices were hard to make and families have different circumstances some of which make remote learning difficult. My guess is that the families that are choosing in person learning want to keep it this way. Please help us to prevent this from happening by following directed health measures when away from school. We’re doing all we can to keep students and staff safe and keep Abbott open so we can provide an education for our children. With weather getting colder it’s going to make this more difficult. I truly hope a parent thinks twice about having a large indoor gathering with or without masks and distancing difficult such as a huge homecoming party.
We appreciate the role models that parents are, including wearing masks, screening their children, maintaining distance outside, informing the school of illnesses and getting tested when necessary. In school, masks are worn all the time by students and staff unless on a mask break outside or eating lunch and snacks. Please remind your children to wear masks over the noses and hopefully they wear masks that fit properly. We have no more than 12 kids in a classroom at one time eating lunch as half of each classroom is eating in the cafeteria and the other half in the classrooms. We clean surfaces throughout the day.
HALLOWEEN
This is another reminder that Halloween will look very different from years past. We will still celebrate at school with the students but without parent volunteers and costumes. Our party will be managed by the teachers and the PTO will provide snacks of Rice Krispie treats and Honest Kids juice boxes. It would be great to see kids wear fall colors on our Halloween party date of October 30. Again, no costumes!

COVID Q & A
Covid Q & A Week #9
Q: If the personal medical provider provides different guidance than the health department
provides, what do schools do?
A: If the medical provider extends the isolation/quarantine time it is okay, but if their guidance is less than the Douglas County Health Dept. guidance, we must follow the Health Dept guidance.
Q: Does a clinical diagnosis of positive get treated as if it was a test positive?
A: Clinical diagnosis needs to be out for 10 days since symptoms started, same as a positive test.
