CSO Music Educator Awards
Music teachers in our local community have continued to persevere and adapt to a new educational frontier. They deserve our support and recognition as they have shown flexibility, determination, and resilience through these uncertain times. Always self-sacrificing and supportive of their students and committed to the power of music in children’s lives.
2022 is a very special year in the history of the Music Educator Awards. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of its inception in 1997. During this time 82 educators and arts advocates have been honored from in and around Central Ohio. The Columbus Symphony would like to take this milestone year to not only honor four new music educators but celebrate past winners and dedicated educators again with our 25th annual Music Educator Awards and Celebration. The Columbus Symphony is proud to be a supporter of educators past and present who continue to go above and beyond for the students of Columbus.
We are now accepting nominations for the 2022 Music Educator Awards through Friday, February 18. Parents, students, colleagues, administrators, and community members are encouraged to nominate music educators in their lives who you believe in and think deserve to be recognized.
Educators can be nominated in the following categories:
- Elementary
- Secondary
- Private/Community
- Lifetime Achievement
Each Music Educator Award winner will receive a monetary grant to help support teachers that give so much of their own money to provide opportunities for their students. It can be spent at their discretion on a wide range of music education endeavors. Past winners have used grant funds to host guest instructors, repair instruments, take professional development classes, and purchase new instruments.
The recipients of the 2022 Music Educator Awards will be honored at a celebration event preceding the Columbus Symphony Masterworks concert on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
Nomination forms and eligibility requirements can be found online at:

Together let us show our appreciation for teachers who make a difference to our children and in our community.
iReady Testing Jan. 1 through Jan. 19 Continues
iReady testing continues with Math testing Jan. 18 and 19
Dear Families,
Welcome back from break. We hope you had the opportunity to celebrate the holidays and new year. Beginning January 10th through January 31st, we will be administering the i-Ready Diagnostic test for Reading and i-Ready or ALEKS Diagnostic test for Math. The Diagnostic test is important because it helps us identify what your student knows and what they need to learn.
We need your help to prepare and motivate your child to put forth their best effort. Please partner with us to help:
Prepare for the i-Ready Diagnostic
Talk to your child confirming the dates they will be taking the Diagnostic Test. Keep the following in mind:
Your child’s teacher will help proctor the test.
Make a plan for testing days being sure to get a good night’s rest and that they eat breakfast.
The Diagnostic is untimed but your child should focus on completing the test within the scheduled time.
Middle School/Junior High School Testing Calendar
On testing days, teachers will share times for students to take the test.
January 10 - January 11: Reading Diagnostic
January 17 - January 18: Math Diagnostic
Make-up testing for those students who did not complete the test during the scheduled on their return.
Test the device(s) your child will use to take the Diagnostic.
Check that the device turns on.
Check that the device is powered up or is plugged in.
Test the audio. Headphones are recommended but not necessary.
How to help your child on test days:
Encourage your child to try their best on each question and try not to rush.
The diagnostic is adaptive, meaning every child will eventually see challenging content they don't know. When they encounter a challenging question, encourage them to make their best guess.
Get a good night’s rest and eat breakfast.
Ask your child about the test and celebrate their success at the end of each testing day.
