Shout Outs
- Mr. Gantt and S. Beckman for their leadership and planning of our UnbeLEAFable student celebration Wednesday. 35% of our student body participated and returned Kindness challenge documentation. Let's continue our commitment to creating, maintaining, and sustaining a culture of caring. Additional thanks to our office staff, custodial staff, cafeteria staff, and staff members that played a role for this event.
- M. Whittaker for organizing and leading our second annual Art Show. Our students took on the identity of artists. More than $1700 worth of student artwork was sold. Addtional thanks to A. Newman, S. Cope, and M. Newmyer for assisting with sales/purchasing.
- F. Myers for leading and choreographing Wednesday's musical performance. Students in grades 3rd through 5th performed to the tune of the legendary James Brown. A group of fifth grade girls, who willingly practiced during their recess time, and performed a dance routine that was inspirational. More than 300 parents/family members in attendance.
- Ms. Blackwell's class for leading Friday's K-2nd learning celebration. These small teacher talked about strategies they've used as mathematicians, as readers what they've learned from MLK, Ruby Bridges, and Rosa parks, Max and Zoe, Biscuit, and Pete the Cat. The discussed what they learned as community members and the need spread kindness. They shared what they are learning as social scientists and the three branches of government. Finally they taught the audience about "plarning" and how they are taken environmental action to make the world better while supporting the homeless.
- Ms. Sazehn's class for leading Friday's 3rd-5th grade learning celebration. These small teachers shared an year long inquiry to date that began with the read aloud White Owl Barn Owl. The audience learned how these ornithologists investigated owl pellets, how they collected and analyzed data on owl bones, how as researchers they learned about the 4 types of owls in our area. Through this process these small learners took social action by raising money in the fall for the creation of nesting box that will be placed in our natural trail along with an information sign to go along with nesting box.
District Five Board Meeting
Certified staff we are going to encourage everyone to utilize rear parking as we will need to provide easy access in the cafeteria lot and front office lot for board members, executive staff, and any visitors.
As mentioned last week we will have a small window for our school spotlight early on the agenda. Once done you may exit.

Data Team Tuesday
February 27 is our 4th Tuesday which is dedicated for data team purposes. Grade levels should use this time for this purpose Tuesday afternoon. Data Team facilitators plan to join me in the professional development room at 3:15.
Celebrating Our History: Reflecting on Langston Hughes Poetry with Richlex Alumni
We are please to share our second annual program featuring alumni that attended Richlex School (1953-1967). Our campus is an historical site that first school in our community to educate African-American students. Wednesday's program will be designated for 3rd-5th grade classes. Teachers please access and read the text Mr. Rosenwald with your students so that greater context and connections can be made. Please let us know if you need the text.
