Just a reminder about Standard Based Report Cards
Always, always feel free to contact your child's teachers with any questions, concerns, etc. Teachers will address your concerns usually within 1 school day. Glenwood is lucky to have a dedicated and caring group of teachers, who are willing to work closely with parents to help all students reach their academic potential.
The Infamous Bike Example, an analogy by the Quabbin School District, best explains standard based grading.
Your goal: To ride a bike by yourself
4. Exceeding the Standard
Wow! You not only ride a bike on your own, but you can pop a wheelie, jump ramps, and perform other bike stunts.
3. Meeting the Standard
Congratulations! You are successfully riding a bike by yourself. (This will only happen when your child is able to demonstrate mastery of a standard independently.)
2. Progressing Toward the Standard
You are pedaling well and staying upright as long as someone is holding on and giving you a little push. (For the first two quarters, most of our students will be working towards their grade level standards or riding a bike, therefore there may be quite a few 2s. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any concerns.)
1. Not Meeting The Standard
You are riding a bike, but using training wheels.

STEMscopes
STEMscopes is an online science program that is used by all fourth and fifth graders.
- Through STEMscopes, students use fun, collaborative grouping strategies and interactives to share their explanations of the exploration activities.
- Question prompts along with student responses are provided, and built-in progress monitoring helps teachers determine intervention needs.
Some of the most recent STEMscopes lessons have been the Egg Drop Challenge and this week’s Car Challenge.

Notes from Mrs. Lawton, School Nurse
Health Update 10/20/2017:
- Thank you to all those that have sent in recent copies of their children’s MD physicals and updated immunizations- I appreciate it. For those of you who haven’t been able to yet- if you could send them along as soon as possible, that would be great!
- When we receive a note from a doctor letting us know a child can not participate in gym class, we have to follow the doctor's orders. Therefore, a students cannot return to gym without updated orders that clear them for participation. Please make sure there is a start and end date, if possible, on doctor's orders.
- The new Health Office website is up and running. Please visit this site: https://sites.google.com/wrsd.net/wrsdhealthservices/home
