Director's Newsletter
February 2020
Dear Parents,
In recent weeks the topic of most conversations has been the outbreak and control of the coronavirus / COVID-19. Since the outbreak came to light in January 2020, Ajman Academy has effectively taken precautionary measures to ensure that the risk of infection from the virus is minimised. These measures have included deep cleaning of the school campus and facilities and a greater emphasis on hand and respiratory hygiene. Extra hand sanitisers and soap dispensers were placed in classrooms and around key entry areas for students from the outset in January.
Schools across the world have been closed in response to preventing the spread of COVID-19, at this moment in time Ajman Academy intends to remain open for our students. However, in the eventuality of the school being forced to close for a period of time; students will be able to continue their learning through our online digital platforms such as Seesaw, Showbie and Google Drive. Students and teachers will also be able to make use of our digital collaboration tools such as, productivity applications for Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
I would like to reassure you all that the health of our school community is an absolute priority and we are liaising with all appropriate agencies in order to maintain the well-being of our students.
Technology integration is at the forefront of our approaches to learning and teaching at Ajman Academy. Our recent continuous professional development days allowed our teachers to reflect on their practice and develop new skills in helping students to achieve better learning outcomes. We have been very fortunate to be working with Mr Abdul Chohan, our school improvement partner, over the last few months to look at the way we feedback to our students to help them reach their targets. Abdul Chohan is a former Senior leader, Principal and CEO of a Multi-Academy trust. He is also the co-founder of the 'Outstanding' Olive Tree School in Bolton, UK and is also an award-winning Learning Technology consultant based in the UK. Working with international educational organisations as well as devising learning strategies based on mobile technology platforms, Abdul has pioneered the embedded use of learning technologies for students and teachers alike.
Educational research informs us that good quality feedback from teachers to students is a major factor in improving achievement and attainment in school. Abdul will continue to work with Ajman Academy over the next year with teachers and students. We are also collaborating to schedule parent workshops later in the year so that we can further improve parental engagement across the school through the use of technology.
Our exam level students have completed their mock exams and are in the process of receiving feedback and advice. It is very important that our older students are able to organise their time effectively and develop their study skills. Our secondary staff are able to offer advice and support whenever needed.
Kind Regards,
Fiyaz Ahmed
