IB News You Can Use

Summer 2020

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school. Whether you are new to our school or IB Class of 2021, we know this is an unusual time, and we want to help you navigate our programs. Our teachers are excited to get started, our new counselors cannot wait to meet you, and I am looking forward to another great year at Plano East!

The purpose of this brief newsletter is to welcome you and give you a heads-up on some IB, Plano East, and district news you can use. Some of this information can be found on our IB website, pisd.edu/ib, and also Plano East's website, pisd.edu/pesh.

Remote orientation

We are excited to present a virtual orientation to our new students (and parents) this year. Our IB seniors are hard at work developing welcoming and informative videos for our new students, and our IB Booster Club will have an FAQ session for parents on Monday night at 6:00 p.m.

Stay tuned for more information about our virtual new student orientation; we will send an email and Remind on Friday, August 7, when the links are available.

IB Booster Club & Parent Meeting

Our IB Booster Club is ready for support from the IB Community! Membership is good for one year and includes student and parent programs, scholarships, special events, PSAT/ SAT/ ACT practice tests, teacher & staff appreciation, school celebrations & donations, spirit wear, a members’ online directory, and more!

Please visit their website at https://planoeastib.membershiptoolkit.com/ to join. Parents who join on or before August 31 receive a $5 discount

They are also hosting a virtual meeting on Monday, August 10, from 6-7 pm during which parents can connect with experienced IB parents and ask questions:

Student Schedules

Student schedules will be published on August 10, and you will be able to log on to Parent Portal to see them. The deadline for course requests was May 22, so you will not be able to make any elective changes.

Teachers will reach out to students by August 11 with directions about Google classrooms and remote learning.

Meet Our New IH & IB Counselors!

Big picture

Ms. Temie Lehman: Last Names A-L

Ms. Lehman was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and raised in Glendale, California. She received her undergraduate degree in Education at The University of Kansas- go Jayhawks! :) She received her Master's Degree in School Counseling at Emporia State University. Before moving to Texas, she taught 7th/8th grade Language Arts for 14 years before serving as a 9-12 high school counselor for the last 7 years.

Ms. Lehman has family in two states - Texas and Kansas. She moved to Texas to be closer to her mom and her three brothers and their families. Her goal is to be the "cool aunt" to her nieces and nephews! Back in Kansas, she has 3 sons ages 30, 27, and 24. They are the light of her life, and she plans to have them visit Texas often.

She loves to read books of all genres , do crafts, cook for people, and hang out with her family and friends.

She thinks the most exciting thing about working with the IB community is the focus on the whole learner where the student not only learns the curriculum but also develops a care for the world around them and focuses on how to make a positive impact in that world. She is excited to be here at Plano East and looks forward to working with the IB students for many years to come!

You can reach Ms. Lehman at temie.lehman@pisd.edu or 469-725-9017.
