Dear Parents and Guardians,
PARCC Testing
The PARCC Test, an assessment for all students in Illinois, will be administered in District 64 from March 12-23, 2018.
The best preparation for the PARCC has been the quality instruction our teachers have provided this school year. However, there are things you can also do to promote your child’s success:
· Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before each day of testing.
· Provide your child with words of encouragement. While we don’t want our students to feel anxious about any assessment, we do want them to do their best.
· Please send earbuds/headphones to school by Wed., March 7, 2018. We will be using these for the English Language Arts test and Math test. These items will be kept at school and returned at the end of testing.
· The PARCC is an online assessment and students will be using their Chromebooks to complete these tests. Please make sure your child brings his or her Chromebook to school each day—fully charged.
Below is Emerson’s schedule for test administration:
Mon., March 12, 2018: 8:20-10am and 12:30-1:50pm
Tues., March 13, 2018: 8:20-10am and 12:30-1:50pm
Thurs., March 15, 2018: 8:20-10am and 12:30-1:50pm
If you would like to learn more about the PARCC tests, English Language Arts sample tests, Math sample tests, and additional resources are available for your convenience.
Thank you for your support in helping your child be prepared for the upcoming testing.
Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences
Spring conferences are right around the corner and will be held on Mon., March 19, 2018 from 3:30-7pm.
Please note that spring conferences are scheduled differently than fall conferences. Your child’s teacher will contact you if a conference is required. That said, if you have a concern about your child’s performance or if you want an update on your child’s progress, you may contact your child’s teacher. We welcome the opportunity to communicate with you about your child at any time.
Eighth Grade POWER
Emerson will host the annual Power Fri., Feb. 23, 2018. Over 500 Lincoln and Emerson students will participate in this exciting event, focusing on developing leadership skills and promoting healthy choices for our eighth grade students. POWER seeks to bring together middle school youth and staff, community members, as well as high school leaders, to develop trusting relationships along with providing a framework for understanding one’s self and others. The program also strives to teach young people the skills needed to develop healthy peer relationships, resist negative peer pressure, and promote responsible decision-making. This will be a very engaging evening.
Emerson Musical
Our students have been working hard in preparation for this year’s musical production of Mary Poppins, which is at 7pm, both Fri., March 9th & Sat., March 10th. Mrs. Broeker and Mrs. Glines are excited as the musical is coming together nicely. Tickets are $5 each for reserved seating and may be purchased before school in room 160, during the lunch periods, and at every rehearsal.
Have a great weekend,
Sincerely,
Dr. Jim Morrison
Principal, Emerson Middle School
