POEM
Wrongly accused was a black man
in a town that told untruths
Created a curious girl whose name was Scout
and her bigger brother too
Together they explored
innocent around their world
faced with
Injustice of a man
corruption of a court
Prejudice of all kinds and racism up and down
lessons where learned each day
with morals of life
Pesonal Reflection
- After reading this story I can't help but feel enraged at how unfair society was back then for people that were labeled 'Colored' just due to their skin. The whole thought process of it is just insane really. A Black man being accused of a crime he couldn't even commit even if he tried due to a disability from birth. Reading this story really connected to me on multiple personal levels of emotion and insight within myself. Getting a little girl to help narrate this story was, in my opinion, the greatest thing the author did to help get his views across.
A Letter To Scout
Dear Scout,
-After reading the your way you viewed things growing up in a society of such prejudice and racism it's quite amazing that you were able to stick to your young tomboyish girl personality. Especially when in that time, being a girl came with requirements that where due to society standards in being a ''lady''. But through it all you stayed your fierce self not taking any negative talk from anyone on how you acted. You where a very determined, insightful, and open-minded girl, which made me like your personality even more and more.
