Mrs. Cadaver
Later in the novel they are proven wrong by Mr. Birkway, ''Her husband died when a drunk driver rammed into his car. My mother - Mrs. Partridge - was also in the car with Mr. Cadaver, she didn't die, as you know, but she lost her sight.'' - Pg. 219.
Another judgment made by Sal was that she thought Mr. Hiddle, her dad, loved Mrs. Cadaver and was forgetting Sal's mom. ''I hoped Mr. Birkway would fall in love with Margaret Cadaver and would marry her and ale her away so that my father and I could go back to Bybanks.'' - Pg. 116. Salamanca was later proven wrong by Mrs. Cadaver herself,'' 'Are you going to marry him?' ' Goodness!' she said 'It's a little early for that. He's holding on to me because I was with your mother and held her hands in her last moments. Your father isn't ready to love anyone else yet. Your mother was one of a kind.' That's true. She was.'' - Pg. 271 & 272.
Mike Bickle
The first time there was a message on Phoebe's porch, she thought the potential lunatic, Mike Bickle, left it there, ''I believe she thought it came from the potential lunatic. '' - Pg. 52. Phoebe understood she misjudged him when she saw Mrs. Partridge leaving a message on her porch, '' 'You've been creeping around leaving those things, haven't you?' 'Did you like them?' Mrs. Partridge said.'' -Pg. 253.
Mrs. Winterbottom
Phoebe and Sal went to the college Mike Bickle went to because they wanted to find out what he had done to Mrs. Winterbottom, instead, they found Mrs. Winterbottom there but she was doing something completely different then Sal and Phoebe did, '' 'Phoebe---' On the bench was Phoebe's mother, and she was kissing the lunatic.'' -Pg. 235. Salamanca and Phoebe both thought Mrs. Winterbottom was dating Mike BIckle, but Mrs. Winterbottom told them about Mike and who he was, '' Mrs. Winterbottom said ' Mike is my son. ' '' -Pg. 248
Mr. Winterbottom was mad at Mrs. WInterbottom because he didn't get why she couldn't tell him and he thought she was lying, '' 'What's all this with respectable? It's not respectable I'm concerned about I'm more concerned that you couldn't- or wouldn't - tell me about any of this.' '' -Pg. 249. Mrs. Winterbottom told him why she couldn't tell him, she was scared of what it would mean, '' Mrs. WInterbottom stood up. 'Mike found me, and at first I was frightened of what that would mean. I've lived such a tiny life---'. '' -Pg. 248.
