Mariner Memo

This week at Marine City Middle School...
It was another fun-filled week here at MCMS with so many great things going on. Early on in the week our MJHS students traveled to Mackinac Island for leadership activities. On Friday, our 6th grade science classes were thrilled by the awesome animals of Science Alive.
Next week is a big week for our students as well as we begin the end of the year traditions that make Marine City Middle and East China so special. On Tuesday night the East China School District will honor the "Top 10" from each building in a special ceremony at the Performing Arts Center. On Wednesday night at the PAC, MCMS will be center stage for our end of the year academic awards. During the school day on Thursday, our 8th graders will travel to St. Clair Community College to learn about career pathways offered in our own backyard. This wonderful trip opens the eyes of our students to the possibilities that await them and allows our 8th graders to start planning on their paths to get there. Next week on Friday the PTO of MCMS will be sponsoring the first dodgeball tournament in the gym. This fundraiser promises to be fun, active, and energetic!
With all that has happened and all that is planned for the end of the year, it is a great time to a Mariner. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.

This Week in the Positivity Project
Leadership means that you value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best. Leadership can be both formal and informal. It is concerned with getting others to do what needs to be done while maintaining group morale to ensure readiness to act in the future. This character strength’s focus is on the personal qualities of leaders, rather than the practice of leadership. These qualities include the ability to understand others and inspire them toward a common goal, the capacity to mitigate conflict and mold consensus, and the desire to lead other people.
It was a wonderful week of learning and a great finale of character strengths to focus on to tie everything together.
Next week we will transition into an "outro" week within P2. During this week we will come full circle back to the beginning, and the ideal of which this whole P2 thing, #OtherPeopleMatter.
The fun of P2 doesn't end with the lessons however. In the final weeks of the year, we will be culminating our year of character building with assemblies and activities. Stay tuned for more details in the weeks to come.
