The Mustang Minute

Principal's Message

Only two weeks remain in this semester. This is an extremely important time to stay updated with the events that are happening at GHS. Please take time to talk with your students about finishing strong as we head into the break. Below you will find our Finals schedule for the 1st semester as well as a link to exam exemptions.

During this holiday season, please remember that we have a Giving Tree located in the counseling office. Students can pick a bell off the tree and bring the unwrapped item to the counseling office by December 16. If you can, please assist GHS help our CommUNITY.

Counselors' Corner

IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO HAVE A JUNIOR MEETING! Counselors visited Junior English classes the week of Nov. 9th. Our presentation included transcript reviews, addressed post high school planning and resources to assist with planning. Junior parents and students who would like to meet with their student’s counselor for an individual meeting can schedule an appointment by visiting the GHS counseling webpage. Please view the Junior Meeting emaze presentation on the website before your appointment.

Counselors visited Sophomore English classes after we returned from Thanksgiving Break. Students had the opportunity to review their transcripts, hear information about preparation for their Junior year course selections, and explore Career Cruising for post-secondary planning. Here is the presentation for your viewing: Sophomore Presentation

National Honor Society Information

Juniors need to start getting documented service hours if they plan to join National Honor Society in the spring of their junior year. Your son or daughter can donate their time to any non-profit organization that is not school-related. Nonprofit groups you can consider are: GRACE, Grapevine Public Library, Baylor Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, National Charity League, Grapevine Historic Society, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, nursing homes, etc… They should also begin trying to gain leadership hours that can be documented. Leadership Examples: shift leader or trainer at their job, holding an office or chairing a committee in a club or at church, mosque or temple, serving as captain of a team and editor on the newspaper staff. NHS applications are due by noon on January 21st in room 114 or 112.
