Space Oddities Puppet Show
The students (Ibti and Mariam seen above) did a fabulous job performing their space poems with their puppets. This was truly a cross-curricular performance. The students created their puppets with the help of visiting artist, Margo, and their parents (costumes). They wrote wonderful space poems based on research done in class. They published the poems on their iPads using tools in Google Docs. All of this culminated with the performance in Mr. Jones' performing arts class! So much fun! What a treat!
3M Visiting Wizard
Steian's dad, Carl, visited the third grade classrooms last week to give the students a hands-on inquiry based experience on gravity's effect on toys. They made observations while playing with toys, and then made predictions about how the toys would performance while in space. They then watched videos of astronauts playing with the toys in space. Thank you, Carl!
Music in the Classroom
Each month we have a theme song in the classroom. The song is played throughout the day during transition times to give the students a little break -- time to move around and to prepare for the next subject. The songs we have had so far are (mostly oldies but goodies): ABC by the Jackson Five, Thank You for Being a Friend by Andrew Gold, Happy by Pharrell Williams, Respect by Aretha Franklin, Space Oddity by David Bowie, and the "Song of February will be Sugar Sugar by the Archies! We will have an end of the year performance featuring all of songs of the month!
