Important Information for the Week
Staff Meeting
Please ensure that you bring your laptop (teaching staff) or a class iPad (ECE's and support staff) to the Staff Meeting on Monday. Each staff member will be completing a short online survey connecting to our Well-being SIP data collection and will need to individually log on. Homeroom teachers - please also bring 2 copies of your pre and post assessment data for our Math SIP. One you'll keep - one you will hand in. You will need a level for both number concepts and representing - and you'll need to reference both your pre and post data.
Math PLC's
Lisa has put together a fantastic 100 minutes of math learning on Tuesday, at our monthly PLC. You will each have the chance to observe and reflect on a Number Talk (in action!), as well as delve deeper into the post-assessment data and consider next steps for our second SIP cycle. Please be sure to bring your pre/post data with you to the PLC - you'll need it!
New Safety Plans
As you are aware, we recently added a Safety Plan for Maisin in room 114. We have also now added a new Safety Plan for Isaac in room 115. The new plans have been placed in the purple binders in the office - please take a minute to read through them and sign off at your earliest convenience.
Upcoming Parent Involvement Celebrations
As you are aware, School Council has given each teacher $100 to invite parents in to be involved in classroom experiences. If you are planning on doing this over the next 2 weeks, please make sure you let me know! This is so I can include it on our school calendar, but also so that we don't have too many classes inviting parents all on the same day. For example - all Kindergartens will be inviting families in this Friday, so we cannot handle the volume of people coming for any other classes on that day. Also - since you'll be purchasing food, craft items, etc. for the event, please come see me. In most cases you'll have to order through Staples. For food, you will need to shop and then submit a receipt for reimbursement (but there are $ limits). You cannot just go to a store (especially the Dollar Store) and then be reimbursed. Please email me (or stop by in person) to talk specifics for your event.
Bumps to the Head/Concussions
As mentioned in September, there is now a new law (Rowan's Law) and policies regarding concussions in schools. If you have a child that has hit their head, it is critical that you send them to the office and that we follow the concussion protocol. We are not medical practitioners and concussion symptoms don't always show themselves immediately. We appreciate that at times you support the office by dealing with it in your classroom, but you are putting yourself (and potentially the student) at risk by not sending them down for protocol. Let us know if you have any questions!
Office Art
No takers so far...... Please let me know if you're interested!
Fire Inspector
On Friday morning, our new Port Hope Fire Inspector will be coming to look around the school. It is critical that you make sure there is nothing covering the heating vents on your back counters. Please also be very aware of cords, lights, Christmas lights, etc. I understand that she is VERY thorough.
Festive Fridays
Week 2 (Dec 10-14) Challenge: Christmas Song
Your class needs to come up with a Christmas-y song together. If you complete this challenge, everyone gets to dress as their Favourite Christmas Character on Friday, December 14th.
Week 3 (Dec 17-21) Challenge: Christmas Play
Read a holiday-themed book together as a class. Re-create the story If you complete this challenge, everyone gets to wear Christmas pyjamas on Friday, December 21st.
EA Staffing
Last week we had 2 EA postings close for our school - one for Dianne's retirement and the other for Marie's position (she has been the job until it could be posted). Unfortunately Marie was not the successful candidate for either position - as the board fills based on seniority. After Christmas break, please join me in welcoming Natalie Power and Melissa Bastarache to our school. At this point and time, I understand that Jordan will also be returning until February-ish.
Sock Exchange
Last chance to sign up! Please see the board in the staff room:
