This Week in Kindergarten

Guided Reading Books
Next week, your child will begin bringing home a leveled book each week to practice reading at home. Please keep an eye out for instructions and activities to go with the book from your child's classroom teacher.
What are we learning in Kindergarten this week?
Math: In math we are working with matching numbers, numerals, and quantities to 10 correctly. We will also practice correct number formation, and explore grouping objects in different ways.
What can we work on at home?
-Identifying numbers 1-10
-Counting 1-20, 1-50, 1-100
-Writing Numbers 1-10
Language Arts/ Social Studies: In writer's workshop, we will begin using a word wall to correctly spell our sight words in our writing. In reading, we will begin our guided reading groups, continue connecting with our reading, and we will study how punctuation marks can help us read with fluency.
What can we work on at home?
-Review letter names and sounds for: Ii, Ll, Tt, Oo, Aa, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg, Jj, Qq, Uu, Vv
-Writing first name correctly on lined paper with only the first letter capitalized
-Correctly identifying and writing letters
-Stretching out sounds to write simple words.
Science: In science, we will continue our study of matter. We will observe and explore properties of objects so that we can successfully define and sort matter.
