September 15, 2014 - International Dot Day

On Monday, we celebrated "International Dot Day". We read the story, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.

"The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe."

We made our own "dots" which are displayed in our hallway. Talk with your child to see how they will "make their mark"!

Goals

Every Monday, each student will be filling out a weekly goal sheet. They will decide on one thing that they would like to work on for the week. Goals may include things like, "I will work on keeping my hands to myself" or "I will practice raising my hand and not blurting." The student will read their goal to me and we will each sign it. On Friday, we will look at their goal and decide if they have met it, need to keep working on it, or really need to keep working on it. They will then write a reflection, we will both sign, and it will be sent home. Please talk with your child on what they are working on and how they can meet their goal. Thanks for your support!

Pictures

This year, I will be emailing pictures in our weekly Smore newsletter. If you'd like any pictures, please just right click and save them. I am taking pictures using my ipad, iphone, and regular camera this year - I have pictures everywhere! Due to this, I will not be setting up a photo sharing site, but simply sharing them via these newsletters.

Reading Buddies

This year, we will be meeting weekly with Miss Kransberger and her 4th grade class for "Reading Buddies". The kids will read a variety of different books together, as well as work on projects throughout the year. Check out our pictures from our first Reading Buddies meeting below...it was too nice out, so we decided to read outside!

"Wishes"

This week, Ms. Blossom (The Superkids' 2nd Grade Teacher) had the Superkids make wishes in the story that we read. I brought my magical genie lamp and we all made a wish! Our student helper, Patrick (from S.O.A.R. Charter School) recorded them for us and we were going to make a Voice video. Unfortunately, we had some technical difficulties and some of the videos got deleted. We will work on it next week and share the link to our latest video with you when it is done!
