The Charters of Freedom: Building a More Perfect Union for Elementary Students

Guiding Question: What is the purpose of each of the founding documents and why are they important?
During this program, students will learn the purpose of each of the founding documents -- the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights -- and why each is important. In groups, students will complete a graphic organizer and use the information to answer questions by incorporating kinesthetic learning.

Guiding Question: Why do the Charters of Freedom (Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights) exist?
During this program, students will analyze opening passages of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. They will create a graphic organizer that will help them distinguish the Charters of Freedom by their purpose. Next, students will match document excerpts to each excerpt’s origin, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights. The program will conclude with a discussion about the legacy of these founding documents.

Join Leishawn Spotted Bear for a totally immersive program that will have your students observing, predicting, writing, drawing and interacting, all around eggs. Eggs are one of nature's most perfect designs and are an incredible way to learn about life cycles, adaptations and survival. We'll use simple materials like chicken eggs to bring out your student's observation skills and specimens from our teaching collection to hone their ability to predict. Throughout the session, the purpose of eggs and the different animals that lay eggs will be emphasized.
Poetry and American Art

Calling all bookworms! Join us for story time and experience an interactive book reading, discussion, and fun activity. Students get to vote on which story they'd like to hear. Come back multiple times throughout the year for a different story every program! This program also includes a live animal presentation!
Let’s Talk Sharks!

Students will observe shark biofacts and explore how a shark’s skeleton, jaws, teeth, skin, and camouflage make them top predators. We will look at common shark species in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean, as well as view our resident sharks live from the Texas State Aquarium. Discuss why shark conservation is important and what scientists and aquariums are doing to conserve these mysterious animals.
