Happy New Year!
2020 is the year of vision, and that vision is clear for the opening of the new building.
We have lot's of plans for this year. Keep in touch with all the events this month and year by reading the monthly newsletter; especially since I can not fit all the information in my phone calls.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Monday, January 20th
This month we honor Martin Luther King Jr.. On Monday, January 20th school is closed as we observe his birthday. (The actual date of his birth is Jan. 15th.) As we remember and honor his legacy, we should recall his teachings as they may help guide us in this new year. For 2020, I would like to share an MLK Jr quote that can help all of us remember we must work together as a community:
Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?
As we move forward as a community and as a nation, I hope that 2020 can be about togetherness.. As King warned us, "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

Ninth Grad Non-Trad Day: Thursday, Jan. 9th
Our annual Non-Trad activity for ninth grade students is coming up! The purpose of the event is to expose freshman to the real world experiences and opportunities inherent to working in a field that is considered non traditional for a specific gender. Information from this program has been helpful for students who are poised to select which career pathway is suitable for them.
The event is set for the afternoon of Thursday, January 9th. Guest presenters will be grouped together into four teams according to their Academy: Construction, Hospitality, Health and Human Services, STEAM and Transportation. At the event's conclusion, we are planning to have students return to their shops and complete a brief Google survey on the activity.

Attendance Matters
95.31%
That was our 1st trimester attendance rate! That is good, but it needs to be better. Last year our Trimester 1 Attendance Rate was 96.1%. Parents and students we need to work together to get this number up. Attendance matters.
The state expects a 95% rate for student attendance. We want to achieve a 95.9% rate for the year. We can do this, but students need to come to school everyday. No excuses. Remember, your boss will expect you at work everyday, and so will your co-workers. Build healthy habits now. Come to school because we want you here!
