TWHS FINAL EXAM INFORMATION
FINAL EXAM EXEMPTION POLICY
At the end of each eighteen-week grading period, students will take midterm and/or final exams. Students are only eligible for exemption from final exams, not midterm exams. Seniors are eligible for final exam exemptions in both the Fall and Spring semesters. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are only eligible for final exam exemptions in the Spring semester.
Absences include all days missed: Excused and Unexcused. Pre-approved absences, DOC’s, and hospital stays count against exemptions. School field trips, athletic events, UIL events, HCPs (health care provider - student attended school part of the day), PREs (present), GLOs (grade level office), ECLs (election clerk), CTZs (citizenship), NATs (naturalization), CVs (up to two College Visits) and religious holidays are not considered absences. Any student that has served ISS, DAEP, or OSS while enrolled in a course in the spring semester is not eligible for an exam exemption for that particular course.
A student granted a final exam exemption must still attend that class during the final exam period. Failure to attend and stay the entire period will result in a zero or an incomplete for that course.
To qualify for an exemption on Final Exams, the student must meet the following criteria:
18 Week Courses:
Average of 85 or better with only 2 absences
Average of 90 or better with only 3 absences
Year Long Courses:
Average of 85 or better with only 4 absences
Average of 90 or better with only 5 absences

COUNSELORS CORNER:
Summer School Registration: Summer school registration has opened for Summer, 2023. If your student is interested in taking an accelerated course such as health, government, etc., please reach out to your student’s counselor to begin the process. In addition, if your student needs summer school for credit recovery, we are able to register your student at this time. However, many parents and students choose to wait until after final exams to register for credit recovery. The deadline to register with your student’s counselor for summer school is Wednesday, May 31. There will be a final registration opportunity at the district wide registration evening event. This will be held on Thursday June 1, 5 – 7pm at TWHS.
Summer school will be at The Woodlands High School this summer. The link for the brochure is: Summer School – Conroe ISD
Quick Reminder: If your child is able to average the first semester failing grade with the second semester passing grade together for an overall grade of 70 or higher, summer school may not be needed. However, if a student fails second semester, the two semester averages cannot be averaged together for credit recovery. All students have to pass the second semester in order to get second semester credit. As always, please contact your student’s counselor with any questions.
The TWHS Counseling Team wishes everyone to have a great summer and we will see all of the underclassmen when we return on Wednesday, August 9, 2023!
Juniors and families—Mrs. St. Romain will be sending out emails over the summer to help get organized for the college application season. Be sure to follow @twhsccc on Instagram, so you don't miss out on some good information!
ATHLETICS:
BOYS BASKETBALL: CONGRATULATIONS to Shey Eberwein as he has been selected to play in the TABC All Star game this Friday night in San Antonio at 7pm at Taylor Fieldhouse. Coach Reed will be the coach as well. This summer Coach Jones will be running our strength and skills sessions in the month of June and high school players can sign up with the form that is on our website at www.highlanderbasketball.org. Basketball camp information can also be found on our site. Have a great summer!!!
GIRLS GOLF TEAM: The Highlander Girls Golf Team placed 3rd in the 2023 6A State Championship. 12 really good teams battled each other and Legacy Hills GC in Georgetown TX for 2 rounds. The Highlanders were in the hunt the entire way. Their team score of 589 would have been low enough to win state in many of the past state championships, but not this one. The state has any one of 6 talented schools that could have claimed the victory.
The Girls were led by sophomore Charlotte Stick (75-70-145) and junior Veronika Exposito (73-72-145). Their 145 1 over par total was tied for 9th place individually. Sophomore Tate Hutcheson tied for 17th with a strong (72-76-148). These 3 girls will be back leading the Highlanders run at state next year!
Seniors Leena Stephens (79-75-154) and Sofia Bastidas (76-77-153) ended fantastic careers for the Highlanders with their 3rd state appearance in a row with solid efforts. Their efforts in the classroom and on the golf course will be missed as Sofia will move on to play golf at Arkansas State and Leena will play at North Carolina State. Both universities will add a good player, great student, and awesome person to their respective teams.
TWHS BASS FISHING TEAM: THSBA State Championship will happen the
is weekend at Sam Rayburn. Congratulations to Rebecca Comeaux and Drew Bouffard and boat team Ty Collura & Aidan Martinez qualifying for this two-day tournament!
Ty and Aidan overall finished in seventh place during the five-tournament 2022-2023 regular season! Next month they will compete in the anglers-of-the-year tournament sponsored by Academy Sports & Outdoors.
Good luck Ty and Aidan!
Our team is starting to plan our 2023-2024 inshore and offshore season. If you like to fish Lake Conroe, Livingston and Sam Rayburn here is your chance to win college scholarships! Offshore (fishing lakes) sign-up will begin in July.

If your child has a Conscientious Objector Exemption on file and is leaving TWHS, you or your student may pick up the original form before May 26th.
---Parents/guardians need to check out any medication that was left in the clinic this year by 12:00 on May 25th, or it will be discarded. We are not allowed to store it over the summer, or send it home with students. If you need new forms for next year, you can access them on the Health Services website at https://www.conroeisd.net/department/health-services/important-forms/or your doctor is welcome to use their own form. If your child has a change in health over the summer, please be sure to note that on the online enrollment that you are asked to complete in July. One important item to update on there is any food allergies that your child has. That information is shared with the cafeteria staff, and they will not sell your child any items that are currently listed as an allergy.
Please schedule doctor’s appointments during the summer so that we can have a plan and medication (if needed) in place for the first day of school. Parents are welcome to check in medications beginning on schedule pick-up days at the end of the summer; lines are generally very long on the first day of school.
If your student is participating in athletics or band over the summer and has a chronic condition, they will need to have their plan and any needed emergency medications turned in to the athletic trainers by the first day of practice. If they have orders to carry an Epi-pen, inhaler, or diabetic supplies, they will need to show the coach that they have them.
---If your child has a vaccine or new Conscientious Objector Exemption due over the summer, please be aware they will not be allowed to start school in August, or get a parking space, without first submitting proof that the requirement has been completed. Parents will be notified of these requirements during the month of May.
We hope you and your family have a safe and healthy summer!
