We Remember 9-11
Prestwick Stem Academy was honored to have Mrs. Paula Schneyer, Prestwick parent and PTA member, present a first hand account of the tragedy that happened on 9/11. Schneyer was living in NYC when this event occurred. She shared documentation of the day’s events through personal photographs and stories. On the 15th anniversary of 9/11 students were given an opportunity to better understand the severity of this tragic day that forever changed history.

Spotlight on Learning
Our K-5 students at Prestwick have engineering throughout the week. This week Mrs. Malcolm and Mrs. Marrs for 4th and 5th graders paired together to work on "Define the Problem." In the engineering process consists of: defining the problem, plan solutions, make a model, test the model, and reflect and redesign. The students in this activity took tiles of different materials and collected the their temperatures after being under a lamp. And then began discussions from that point. It is all about the process.
Also, in an elective course for middle school, Real Solutions students took on the problem of taking plastic bottles and recycling to make something useful. After designing and redesigning, students displayed everything from pen/pencil holders to zipper containers.
In both examples, being adaptable was a key characteristic to the learning! Keep it up Lobos!
