Hybrid Simultaneous Learning for PreK-5th!

Distance Learning students should log in to WebEx through their Canvas course or Google Meet using the teacher provided link or nickname.

In-person Learners will attend in person on Tuesdays-Fridays.

Mondays is remote for all students.

Message from the Principal

Good evening Webster families,

All in-person learners will return to campus on Tuesday. Please remember to send a snack and a water bottle with your child. They should also bring their charged Chromebook and charger in their backpack.

All students will be sent home with a Grab and Go bag. Students may bring the snack for the next day.

Gen Ed PreK and Kinder students will be screened and temperature checked at the Kindergarten gate on Pepper Drive. Please have students remain in the car until the screening is completed. Please avoid making a left turn from Washington onto Pepper Dr. and instead access Pepper by making a right turn from Washington Blvd. Please DO NOT make any three point or U-turns on Pepper Drive. This is extremely dangerous and illegal. If you prefer to walk to the Pepper Kindergarten gate, you may park in the St. James parking lot on Washington Blvd.

Please DO NOT park on the school side of Pepper Drive and please do not block our neighbors driveways.

Special Ed PreK and K-5 grade students will be screened and temperature checked at the North Driveway Gate on Pepper Dr. Please pull up to the gate but not into the driveway. Please have students remain in the car until the screening is completed. Our instructional aides will be present to walk our students to their classrooms. UPDATE is that PICK-UP will be at the kindergarten gate on Pepper Dr.

1st-5th grade students will be screened and temperature checked at the drive-thru around the staff parking lot. Please pull up as far as possible. Please have students remain in the car until the screening is completed. Students should have backpacks with them inside the car to be most time efficient. Make sure to not block the left lane. The left lane will be reserved for thru traffic. DO NOT park in the staff parking lot as we need the spaces for our staff. Walkers will be screened and temperature checked at the gate in between the staff parking lot and the auditorium.

Please only bring your child to attend school on Tuesday if you responded as "Yes" to in-person learning on the Parent Survey or if your child's attendance has been confirmed by the main office. You should have received an email from me on April 2nd confirming attendance. No unconfirmed students will be allowed to attend in-person. Most classes are at capacity. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Garcia at garcia.esvin@pusd.us.

Three weeks ago I presented Webster's reopening playbook. Please note there was a change in the drop off point for our Special Education students. The correct information is above. If you missed the meeting you may use this link to see the recording. I had previously forgotten to include the password for access. The password is: eJwzcAm8

Really Attend Class Online

Please be reminded that part of student success stems from creating an environment conducive to learning. Please encourage students to attend their virtual classes as if they are in the classroom. Students should start the day with breakfast and be dressed for class before the school day begins. Students should also be sitting up to better focus and participate in class. We also encourage cameras to be turned on for increased engagement. A student lying in bed does not present him or herself as being ready to learn.

Parent Portal

It is necessary that the school has accurate contact information, including a working email. You can update all important contact information on the parent portal. Aeries Parent Portal is a wonderful resource that all parents need to sign up for in order to access student attendance, grades, and teacher information to name a few. If you do not yet have an Aeries Parent Portal account, you can go to https://www.pusd.us/Page/6203 and follow the instructions to create an account. Please make sure you have set up your account before school starts so you know what class your child has been assigned to for the 2020-2021 school year.

In our commitment to take the appropriate measures to protect all student information and privacy, we are making changes to the requirements for all passwords within Aeries student, parent, and staff portal accounts.

Beginning the week of June 29, 2020, parent and student portal account users should have received an email from DoNotReply@pusd.us that will provide you with a link and instructions on how to update your Aeries portal password. Listed below are the minimum requirements for your new password:

  • A minimum of twelve characters
  • Change password every twelve months

To view more specific instructions on how to reset your password, please visit:

Please join us and become a member today! We invite every parent, teacher and neighbor to join with the PTA as we work to make Webster the best school of choice in PUSD and a great place for our kids!

Webster PTA has and does support our students in the following ways:

  • Playground equipment and shade structures
  • IPADS and apps for class instruction and interactive learning
  • Lego Robotics
  • School Supplies

Attendance continues to be extremely important. California compulsory education law requires everyone between the ages of six and eighteen years of age to attend school. We are in the process of sending out truancy letters. If you receive a letter and need to clear absences, contact Ms. de Abrego-Paz at deabregopaz.frances@pusd.us. There is a limited time in which you may clear absences. Three or more consecutive absences require a doctor's note. If you receive a second letter, you will be required to have a conference with Mrs. Forrest and sign an attendance agreement. The next step is to go before the PUSD School Attendance Review Board (SARB).

COVID-19 Safety Protocols

All persons coming onto Webster campus to pick up materials MUST abide by the following protocols:

  • Must wear a mask in order to get items

  • Allow temperature to be taken

  • Must practice social distancing

  • Must leave after receipt of materials. No gathering allowed.

We are not accepting any visitors or volunteers on campus at this time except by appointment for textbook or materials pick up.

Online Class Meetings

Most students will access WebEx through their Canvas course.

Some students will meet teachers using Google Meet through PUSD Bookmarks in top left corner PUSD APPS (Clever) Teachers will have provided the nickname to join the meeting.

If technology is not cooperating when trying to join a class meeting, please email the teacher to let him or her know that the student was unable to join by the end of the school day, if possible. Email contact will prevent attendance issues.

2020-2021 PUSD School Opening Guide

Breakfast and Lunch Curbside Pick-up

The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Food & Nutrition Services program will provide an opportunity for families to drive through and pick up meals for the children in the family, at all of the PUSD school sites.

Starting Monday, August 17, 2020 the following schools will provide a breakfast and lunch for the day. Meals will be served between 9 am – 12 noon, Monday – Friday, in the parking lot or bus

lane at each school site. Please stay in your car and meals will be passed to you.

This program will be solely for the pick-up of meals and meals will not be consumed on site. This

year all the PUSD schools qualify for the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) which means all

students eat at “No Charge” for their meals! Our Food & Nutrition Services has gone

paperless, so all the menus can be found on the Website or on the menu boards at each curbside

Families can now pick-up all the meals they need at any school site. Meaning if a family has

multiple children at multiple school sites, they only need to stop at 1 school curbside of their choice and pick up all the meals they need. It is the goal of the Food and Nutrition Department to make meals as accessible as possible for families. During this time, food is the last thing our families need to worry about.

Starting August 31 st through September 7 th the Food Service Department will be releasing a parent survey asking if the meal times and locations are working for families. It is extremely important to get everyone’s feedback to be able to continue to provide all families with the best service possible.

Tax Deductible Giving through Webster's Annual Fund

Daniel Webster Elementary School has been honored as a California Distinguished School. Great teachers, strong leadership, and parent involvement make Daniel Webster a great school to send our children.

In addition to the great education our students receive, they are also provided with various opportunities to participate in our music and arts activities. We're asking for your support to continue this legacy by donating to the Daniel Webster Annual Fund and help us reach our goal of $50,000.

These funds will be used to financially support our music and arts programs, and to support the instructional goals set forth by the School Site Council
We would like to see every family donate at least $1.00 per week ($50 for the school year) for each child they have enrolled at Daniel Webster.

Think of it as donating less than the cost of a weekly cup of coffee or soft drink to help ensure that your child receives a high quality education.

If you can donate more, we would encourage you to donate towards our Giving Tree. We have various levels of donations:
Bronze - $100
Silver - $200
Gold - $300
VIP - $500 or more

If you are not able to contribute financially please consider donating your time and talents.

To donate:

If you are making matching gifts through an employer, please let them know that they must provide PEF's information to their employer in order for us to confirm their gift.

Parent/Student Handbook 2020-2021

Use the following link to find the 2020-2021 Parent/Student Handbook: https://www.pusd.us/Page/3247

The entire handbook is important, but with distance learning, I suggest you take special note of page 25 regarding information on Technology Learning Applications.

On the same link, you will also find annual parent notification forms that I recommend be completed through your Parent Portal account.
