From Mrs. Dameron
Reflecting on this year, it has been an exciting one for all of us. Together we learned much and shared experiences that will long remain with us in the years to come. The strength of our community and passion to make our school a wonderful place of learning not only for our children, but for us as well, has made Walker a special place. Special thanks to all of you who contributed in many ways: volunteering in the classrooms, chaperoning field trips, organizing events, attending events to support the children, serving on committees, sharing your talents, supporting our work in countless ways, and providing the resources to do what we know is best for children! Thank you for getting your children to school on time each day, for sending your children with healthy lunches and snacks, for making sure they are ready for learning. Thank you for providing rich, engaging, and well-rounded experiences for your children and for knowing that education is about joy, wonder, and fostering curiosity, along with the development of the social skills so needed to succeed. For these, and a million other things, we are truly grateful!
May 7th - 11th is Teacher Appreciation Week. I want to thank all teachers and staff at Walker Elementary for their dedication and loyalty each and every day. Please see attached plan to appreciate our teachers.
Also, students in grades 3 and 4 will be taking STAAR this month. 3rd grade will take the math STAAR on Monday, May 14th and reading STAAR on Tuesday, May 15th. 4th grade will take the math STAAR on Monday, May 14th and the reading STAAR on Tuesday, May 15th. Some of our 5th graders will have a STAAR math retest on Monday, May 14th and reading retest on Tuesday, May 15th. All 5th graders will take the science STAAR on Wednesday, May 16th. During the week that your child is testing, make certain that your son/daughter rests properly each night, arrives for school on time, and is not distracted at home. Students test in the morning and are expected to report to be at school no later than 8:05 am. No personal devices may be used during the assessment.
Lastly, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the principal of Walker Elementary.
