Alief ISD Board Member Darlene Breaux was selected as the 2020 Houston Area Alliance of Black School Educators (HAABSE) Board Member of the Year.
O'Donnell Middle School teacher Michele White was named the recipient of the New Educator of the Year Award by the National Association for Alternative Certification.
White, who teaches 7th grade math, will be recognized this spring at the National Association for Alternative Certification Conference in Seattle.
Alief ISD orchestrra teacher performed for a Theatre Under the Stars production.
O’Donnell Middle School orchestra teacher Dr. Richard Spitz recently performed in the orchestra
for the Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) production of Elf.

In case you missed it...
- Alief ISD is conducting an online auction from January 14 to 23 to dispose of surplus items, broken and obsolete furniture, equipment, computers and educational materials.
- The Find Your Future Expo will be held on January 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Careers. Students can meet industry professionals, post-secondary colleges and trade schools and CTE high school teachers and students.
- The Transportation Job Fair will be held on January 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Alief Support Facility. Did you know if a current employee refers someone to Alief ISD and that individual is hired as a bus driver and stays employed as a full-time bus driver for six months, the referring employee will receive a $250 referral fee? For more information, visit the Transportation webpage.
- The Safety and Climate Surveys are live for district students and parents as well as campus-based employees. Parents can take the survey by visiting www.aliefisd.net/survey. Campus staff members will be receiving a survey link via email, and students will be taking the survey at the school.
- The 2020-2021 applications are online for the high schools of choice, Dual Language Program and Mandarin Immersion Program. The high schools of choice priority acceptance application deadline is February 28 at 5:00 p.m. Space is limited.

Alief ISD has been named a Top Workplace for the fourth consecutive year by the Houston Chronicle, the largest local newspaper. Dr. Elizabeth Veloz-Powell (Alief ISD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources), Darrell Alexander (Alief ISD Executive Director of Human Resources) and Kimberly Saunders (Alief ISD Center for Advanced Careers Secretary) dived into the anonymous workplace survey results and why Alief continues to be a highly-ranked employer.
