LOUSY LICE
Head lice are tiny wingless insects that only live on humans. They are passed from person to person. They move quickly but do not jump or fly. It is a good practice to check your child’s hair, especially at the back of the head and behind the ears. Lice are difficult to see because they hide and blend in with the hair. Nits (eggs) are smaller than a mustard seed and stick to the hair. Nits are usually found within an inch of the scalp. Louse (lice) are about the size of a sesame seed, brownish in color. Teach your child to never share brushes, combs, hats or coats. A good head check takes about 10 minutes. If you suspect your child has head lice consult your doctor or school nurse for confirmation of head lice and/or treatment.
