JOB SHADOW INFORMATION!!!
This year, Northwest High School, working with Junior Achievement, will offer a job shadow experience to ALL 10th grade students! Job shadowing is an activity designed to provide participants the answer to the commonly asked question, “Why do I have to learn this?” Our goal is that all NWHS participants “shadow” workplace mentors as they go through a normal day on the job. All participants are invited to see firsthand how the skills learned in school relate to the workplace.
Job shadowing is an academically motivating educational activity dedicated to giving kids an up close look at the world of work. This gives young people an occasion to explore a career interest and the chance to see how the skills learned in school relate to the workplace. This is why job shadowing is an integral part of our high school program. Transportation will be provided for all 10th grade students, and this year’s event is scheduled for Feb. 13 and 15.. Juniors and Seniors are also invited to sign up for a job shadow which will be scheduled after the new year. Upperclassmen will need to provide their own transportation and will be scheduled individually.
Students will be able to select their area of interest on our Job Shadow Form which we will use to schedule student visits with area businesses. 10th grade students will complete the form in Focus time, and other interested students can fill it out at their convenience. We will also be using the career and pathway information they have entered in Xello while completing their EDP. More information will be once we gather the students’ interest areas this week and schedule the job shadow visits.
We will be sending out the required parent permission forms to students next week so this would be a great time to have a discussion with your student about possible future career plans:) We hope you find job shadowing to be a productive experience! Please email or call me if you have any questions or concerns. HERE IS THE PARENT PERMISSION FORM THAT MUST BE RETURNED AS SOON. AS POSSIBLE. The forms are required before we can schedule your student with a Job Shadow experience.

Thank You Community Partners!
We are thrilled to acknowledge and express our deepest gratitude to two esteemed partners, Sproat Farm Realty and Johnson Sign, for their unwavering support and sponsorship of our Dave Ramsey Foundations in Personal Finance and Foundations in Entrepreneurship curriculum. Over the last two years, their generous contributions have impacted the lives of over 200 eager learners at Northwest High School, preparing them for a prosperous and financially sound future.
Sproat Farm Realty and Johnson Sign have played a pivotal role in fostering financial literacy and entrepreneurial spirit within our student community. Through their sponsorship, we have been able to offer a comprehensive curriculum that covers essential personal finance principles and entrepreneurial foundations. This curriculum equips our students with critical life skills that will guide them in making wise financial decisions and pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors.
The Dave Ramsey Foundations in Personal Finance curriculum has empowered our students to understand the importance of budgeting, saving, investing, and managing their finances responsibly. On the other hand, the Foundations in Entrepreneurship curriculum has encouraged creative thinking, problem-solving, and risk-taking—essential qualities for budding entrepreneurs. Last year, two of our teams brought home cash awards from the Junior Achievement CEO Challenge competition in March to give them a start on their savings for future endeavors. We look forward to seeing student ideas for this year!
Through their generous support, Sproat Farm Realty and Johnson Sign have demonstrated their commitment to education and community development. They have exemplified the value of investing in the education of our youth and empowering them to shape a bright and promising future.
The impact of this partnership goes beyond the classroom, reaching into the lives of our students and, ultimately, into the fabric of our community. We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such dedicated and forward-thinking organizations.
Thank you, Sproat Farm Realty and Johnson Sign, for your enduring commitment to our students and their future success. Your sponsorship has been transformative, and we look forward to continuing this journey of empowerment and growth together.
