We have so many exciting opportunities coming up at Webster.

Girls on the Run is a great opportunity for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls to reinforce communication and social skills as well as participate on an athletic team. We will need at least 8 girls registered by Feb 28 to move forward with the team. Confidential scholarship opportunities are available; contact Alison about financial assistance. All the information is on the flyer below.
For any family participating in this season and who refers another family that registers, Girls on the Run will offer them 10% off on this season's registration OR 15% off on next season, Fall 2022 (if your school participates). This includes any family that is currently registered for the team. You just have to email Alison with that family's name to receive your discount.

We will celebrate Read Across America next week. Are there any parent volunteers interested in participating in reading to students during the week in a virtual setting? Volunteers will be asked to pick their favorite Dr. Seuss book or a book of their choice to read to students in a virtual setting. Updated Vaccination Cards
As your children receive their COVID19 vaccinations, please send a copy of your child's vaccination card to Ms. Claudia Mendez at email@example.com. This will ensure that we are able to keep your child in school in case he/she is identified as a close contact.

Screening Questions Daily before coming to school

- Am I experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
- Am I experiencing nausea, vomiting or diarrhea?
- Am I experiencing any other symptoms?
- Have I been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days?
- In the last 10 days, have I been directed to quarantine, isolate or take a COVID-19 test?
How and Where PUSD Students and Employees Can Get Tested
PUSD offers COVID-19 PCR oral or nasal swab tests on campuses and at the District’s Primary Clinic, 8 a.m. - 3:30 pm. By appointment, please call (626) 396-3600, ext 88180
On PUSD campus's weekly testing, on Thursdays, is available for ALL students and staff.

STEPS to follow if you get a POSITIVE COVID test result
1. Immediately isolate from all others(family, school, sports, after-school enrichment and daycare)
2. Contact Mrs. Forrest and Ms. Mendez to notify POS results
3. Expect a phone call/contact from Health Department for specific information and quarantine next steps
4. Receive a short-term independent study agreement
5. Complete assigned school work, if feeling well
6. Call and/or contact school/teacher if any questions
STEPS to follow if you are requesting and Independent Study(IS) Agreement
1. Send an email to your child's teacher and Mrs. Khrlopyan to request an IS agreement
2. Include which days you are agreeing to work remotely on the Canvas work posted by the teacher.
3. Include if you are choosing to do an IS or if you are needing to, due to an exposure or POSITIVE COVID-19 lab confirmed PCR test.
Student Drop-off and Pick-Up
According to safety guidelines, parents may not enter the campus. Please avoid congregating at the school gates.
Parents may not enter past the walking gate on Washington Blvd. Students will be screened at the walking gate for fever and other symptoms. No parents will be permitted to exit their cars during pick-up or drop-off unless your child needs accommodations/accessibility and it is pre-arranged. Please notify family or caregivers who drop off and pick up students of these changes.
PreK, TK, Kinder and siblings and our special-education class student drop-off will remain unchanged with the addition of temperature and symptom screening.
Please email Ms. Khrlopyan at firstname.lastname@example.org if you will be picking your child up from the walking gate instead of using the drive-thru car pick up line, so that we have students at the gate at dismissal.
By car: 1st-5th grade parents should pull up to the Circle Drive entrance by the staff parking lot and follow instructions. We ask that you pull all the way forward for screening before your student exits the car. Please follow all traffic rules, and be patient during peak traffic times.
Walking: parents may walk their children to the designated walking gate off Washington Blvd next to the staff parking lot. Please maintain physical distance from others. Students will be screened at the gate.
Pick-up after school:
TK-5th grade: Circle Drive or Walking Gate by the staff parking lot.
Updates from Pasadena Public Health Department
On behalf of Dr. Goh, Director of Public Health and Health Officer for the City of Pasadena, I’d like to share a few important updates regarding reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our K-12 school community as you prepare to resume instruction.
With rapidly increasing, HIGH levels of community COVID-19 transmission, the Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) strongly recommends the implementation of multiple layers of risk mitigation. We are seeing many businesses and other operations severely impacted by large numbers of employees out sick with COVID-19. We expect this case surge to continue, likely driven by the Omicron variant, for several weeks.
In addition to infection prevention measures such as maximizing ventilation and social distancing (such as during lunch when masks are removed), frequent handwashing, and regular disinfection of high-touch surfaces, we would like to highlight the following:
- Get vaccinated for COVID-19 , and get boosted once eligible:
- PPHD strongly recommends boosters for staff and students ages 16 years and older (at least six months after an individual received the final dose of their primary mRNA vaccination series or 2 months after J&J).
- In addition to vaccine appointments at medical offices and pharmacies, the Pasadena Public Health Department has clinics located at 1845 North Fair Oaks Avenue in the Immunization Clinic; all currently authorized vaccine brands are available for first, second, and booster doses for anyone ages 5 years and older. Appointments are available on MyTurn.CA.gov, walk-ins are welcome:
i. Mondays and Wednesdays: 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM
ii. Tuesdays: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
- Upgrade your mask to a more protective option, such as medical-grade surgical (three-ply) mask, KN95 or N95. Wear the most protective mask that can be tolerated:
- Wearing a well-fitted mask with multiple layers is very important for preventing the spread of COVID-19. For more information on how to choose and wear a mask, and choosing a more protective mask, see CDC's Masking Guidance.
- PPHD strongly recommends expanding masking requirements for all staff and students, regardless of vaccination status, to include outdoor settings in addition to indoor.
- Conduct robust daily, systematic symptom screening, coupled with testing of all symptomatic staff and students regardless of vaccination status. Everyone should self-screen for symptoms at all times, and remove oneself from public settings if symptomatic.
We are working with the CA Department of Public Health and neighboring public health jurisdictions to consider the CDC’s new recommendations for COVID-19 isolation and quarantine. At this time, our local isolation and quarantine orders have not changed.

Volunteers are authorized for assisting with the supervision of
students. If you are interested please contact Mrs. Rojas, our office manager at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All volunteers must provide either: a) proof of Covid vaccination prior to starting any
volunteer work; or, b) proof of a negative Covid test performed by a medical
laboratory provider weekly. Proof of vaccination may be provided in the form of a
Covid vaccination card or a screenshot of a digital record with a corresponding QR
Proof of Covid vaccination must include the individual’s name and date(s) of
● Proof of vaccination or negative weekly test results for Level 1 volunteer records
should be completed and retained at the school site using the attached “Volunteer
Vaccination/Negative Test Result Attestment” form.
● Volunteers must record their time at the school site using the same “visitors log” that
denotes their name, entry/leave times, phone number, and email address.
● Volunteers are expected to follow the same Covid exposure and quarantine/isolation
protocols that PUSD staff follow as part of the Covid Safety Plan.
Tax Deductible Giving through Webster's Annual Fund
Daniel Webster Elementary School has been honored as a California Distinguished School. Great teachers, strong leadership, and parent involvement make Daniel Webster a great school to send our children.
In addition to the great education our students receive, they are also provided with various opportunities to participate in our music and arts activities. We're asking for your support to continue this legacy by donating to the Daniel Webster Annual Fund and help us reach our goal of $50,000.
These funds will be used to financially support our music and arts programs, and to support the instructional goals set forth by the School Site Council
We would like to see every family donate at least $1.00 per week ($50 for the school year) for each child they have enrolled at Daniel Webster.
Think of it as donating less than the cost of a weekly cup of coffee or soft drink to help ensure that your child receives a high quality education.

Weekly COVID-19 Testing at the School Site
At its regular meeting on August 26, 2021, the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Board of Education took decisive action to bolster safety measures that protect students and employees from COVID-19. The Board of Education voted unanimously to:
ratify an existing testing plan that places mobile testing teams at schools for students and employee testing and now requires
all students under age 12 to get weekly COVID-19 tests with informed consent from parents/guardians
Testing will be offered at Webster Elementary on Thursdays from 7:45am to 3:30pm.
PUSD offers COVID-19 PCR oral or nasal swab tests on campuses
Testing teams will be at each elementary and middle school site for one day to conduct the testing program. PUSD Health Programs will not test students who have not submitted informed consent.

Assembly Bill (AB) 104 was passed to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on student performance during the 2020/21 school year. This legislation temporarily modifies practices regarding student retention, grading, and graduation status for eligible students during the 2020/21 school year ONLY. Read the letter
Amendments to Assembly Bill (AB) 130 require school districts to offer an independent study option to students and families to be made available to students whose health would be put at risk by in-person instruction, as determined by the parent or guardian. The TK-12 Independent Study Program in the Pasadena Unified School District will be held virtually through the Center for Independent Study (CIS). Read the letter

Box Tops - Box Tops can still be clipped and put into an envelope or ziplock bag and turned into the school in the Box Tops box provided under the shade structure at the drive-thru. You can also upload the virtual version off your receipt. The app is called “Box Tops”. Select Webster as your school of choice and follow the instructions to set up an account to get credit.
It is necessary that the school has accurate contact information, including a working email. You can update all important contact information on the parent portal. Aeries Parent Portal is a wonderful resource that all parents need to sign up for in order to access student attendance, grades, and teacher information to name a few. If you do not yet have an Aeries Parent Portal account, you can go to https://www.pusd.us/Page/6203 and follow the instructions to create an account. Please make sure you have set up your account before school starts so you know what class your child has been assigned to for the 2021-2022 school year. Our office will reopen on August 4th and will be able to provide you with needed information on or after this date.
