Newsletter - 4th December 2020
Dear all
Thank you so much for a great week. I'm sure you are all counting down the days and listening to x more days til Santa. We have all been pleased to welcome year 10 back in the building and this has meant that we are now back to having all four-year groups in school which is fantastic. Please can you still report any absence to attendance@utcoxfordshire.org.uk and advise if this is Covid related.
Today is National Sock day and recognizes the rarest of all lasting unities, the marriage of matched socks. When they manage to find each other, wash after wash, dry after to dry, it’s time to celebrate!. Obviously the days of knitting socks by hand or on a loom are long gone and in these modern times socks are made using an industrial circular knitting machine. A circular machine enables the manufacturer to create a tubular shape that doesn't require a bulky, unsightly or uncomfortable side seam. An example of Engineering in industry for everyday items that we perhaps don't even think about:
Speed Roses
Our engineering students made some speed roses this week under the watchful eye of Richard students were tasked to produce an aluminium rose from a cola can. Amazing what can be produced in just over an hour!

From the schools in reach team
The School In-Reach team has been contacted by several schools who have highlighted how parents are particularly struggling with supporting their child’s mental health during COVID-19, in response to this the School In-Reach team have created a video with this as a focus. We have shared the link below. The video does have a password which is Oxfordshire. The video is on Loom and is just under 15 minutes long, you do not need an account to watch this video and we recommend opening the Loom video in Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Safari as the videos do not always appear to load when opened in Internet Explorer. We hope this video is supportive, any feedback would also be appreciated.
